Big Horn Hotel

This town is extremely small. The hotel was okay, just outdated. Our only problem was that it got way too hot in the room. Also, there was only one place to eat in the whole town! I would try and stop at some other town. more

I stayed here in late September. The cabin was very nice, especially the bathroom. My only small complaint would be that the propane heater was rather noisy when it turned off/on. When I went to bed I just turned the thermostat way down. I'm guessing this would be a non-issue in summer. more

My wife and I arrived here around 3:00a.m. after driving in from Tok, AK. All other hotels in Watson Lake were booked so we settled here. The reception area smelled of urine and was very trashy. The room was a nightmare. The beds were broken down, the carpets were torn and dirty, and the TV barely worked. This room cost... more

The Air Force Lodge is really the best place to stay in Watson Lake. We stayed here in 2006 and were so impressed that we we stayed again in 2008 on our way through. If anything, it has gotten better; rooms now have wireless internet and television. The Lodge is very, very clean, and although the rooms are small and... more

A Nice Motel

Sep 13, 2008

I stayed here for one night based on the recommendation of a friend. Without that recommendation I would not have noticed it and would have missed the highlight hotel of my long trip. Rooms at this hotel set a new standard for the Yukon, and many other places too. It would stand up to comparisons against rooms in major cities,... more

The kitchen facilities were dirty and the room smelled badly. I wouldn't stay here again. more

I don't know what place these other reviewers stayed at, except the one about all the mosquitoes, because this is one of the worst places we ever stayed. Scott and Linda, the owners, were cold and snobbish. I don't think our van met their high standards. The electricity was out in our cabin and they said they'd look into it... more

In a tiny town far out in the bush, this motel is an oasis of warm hospitality and comfort. First, the quirky: - You must remove your shoes upon entering. The parking area is dirt and gravel, and according to Michael, the proprietor, this is the only way to keep the place clean. And it is SPOTLESS. - Rooms are... more

absoloutely horrible. We mistook this lodge for the air force lodge. This was a grave mistake. By the time we realised our mistake, it wass too late. The room smelled of ciggarettes, with ciggarette burns in the blankets. Both beds were very uncompfortable and dirty. We all slept with our clothes on. I was too scared to enter the bathroom,... more

First they gave us a room that was already rented. Then the room we ended up with, the heat didn't work. We asked about the heat and were told that the maitenance man said that the heat was fine. Eventually, after several conversations, they offered to switch us to a different room, but by then our son was burrowed under... more

We arrived very late after a long journey and the host was extremely welcoming!! Yes the toilets and showers are communal (i.e not in your room) but they are very clean and private. For the price this place is great!! Compared to a motel where you would pay double and not have the welcoming feel this accommodation has. I would... more

This motel/lodge is unique. It has very simple accomodations, similar to what you would find at a university. ie a simple room with one or two single beds (not good for romance) and possibly a TV depending on the room. Kind of eclectic decor with an air force cum old car theme (?). There is no on-site restaraunt and while... more

We chose this place on the basis of the reviews we read on this site. They seemed almost too good to be true but this place really does deserve the praise it gets. It was the only place we stayed at where we did not have our own bathroom, which I normally dislike, but here it was no problem. Not... more

I'm from Austria and found this place over trip advisor. Then I looked up the website from the Air Force Lodge. I made my reservation and was impressed how fast I've got the response. I called them to give my credit card information and found out that the lady of the house is from Austria. How small the world is.... more

I'm from Whitehorse, Yukon and never liked to stay in Watson Lake. I've stayed twice before in this town and had only bad experiences. It all changed after I stayed this summer in the Air Force Lodge. This place is now my home away from home. Great hospitality, very very clean, peaceful and safe! The police station is close by.... more

I'd advise you to get up early in Fort Nelson and drive all the way to Whitehorse. There's nothing to see here. Our cabin was like a construction shed. There were screens on the windows, but we were inundated with hungry mosquitos. We killed what seemed like a hundred before we went to bed. At 3 a.m. we were awakened... more

What a great place!!! I stayed in a lot of Hotels in my life, but this one seems by far the cleanest I've seen so far. On the outside you find beautiful flowers with some trees in a cozy setup. The building is very nice restored and very clean. Inside the lady of the house must be cleaning around the... more

Scott and Linda ( the owners) and Donna, are such wonderful and friendly people. We lost our kitty and Donna took time off from her work to help look for her (thankfully, after her 2 1/2 hour jaunt into the Yukon she figured she was better off with us, and she came back!) We stayed two nights at the cabins,... more

We checked out all of the accommodations available in Watson Lake before settling on the Big Horn. The room was comfortably furnished, and the waterbed was very comfortable. The only drawback is that there is no air conditioning, and the two fans provided couldn't cool off the room sufficiently in 90 degree heat. The other place that looked nice was... more
