I wanted to visit Pompeii since I was a kid and it exceeded all expectations. You really feel like you're in an ancient city; you can almost picture the people going about their daily business. The city was bigger than I was expecting. Make sure you have some sort of guide to the city so you can identify the important... more

We visited Pompeii on a day trip from Salerno. We were really looking forward to seeing Pompeii but were very disappointed. The staff is very disorganized, there are very few signs, and the information booth did not have any maps. Almost all of the artifacts from the sight have been taken to the museum in Naples, and the sight is... more

Hi Whatever the tour company will tell you to the contrary, from Sorrento Pompeii is easy to visit.Get the train (30 mins) costs 3 euros 10 currently. The train drops you off at the actual site itself so it could not be easier.Once there you pay 11 euros to enter and 6.50 for an audio guide which is pretty much essential.You... more

Hard to describe. Pompeii must have been a planned city. It is so complete and organized. You feel ancient's could walk up to you from around the corner. We got an official guide when we bought our entry tickets. 100$ for 2 hours. I think a commercial guide or spend some time to map out what you want to see... more

We traveled to Pompeii for the day from Rome. I would highly recommend a visit if you have the time built into your trip. Many people will tell you to go with a tour group, but I think that is just a bunch of nonsense. Save your money & do it on your own. We spent 1/2 the money doing... more

We loved our visit to Pompeii. We had no guide and the map provided didn't make things any clearer, but I had purchased a book which did have good descriptions of the numbered buildings and gave accurate information about the relics within them. I would estimate you need at least a morning to see Pompeii without feeling that you've missed... more

For the record - this was very much worth seeing and we would do it again. However, we feel that the admission prices were very unfair. If you are not a European Union citizen, expect to pay full price, not the discounted price EU citizens get. They also charged us the full adult price for 2 of our kids. We... more

I last saw Pompeii 20 years ago, when many of the houses were open to visitors, and had a wonderful time. It was a superb window into the past, and I had the feeling chariots might come around the corner at any moment. I did have a hint of what the future held when I visited the amazing Villa of... more

The legendary city of Pompeii is a "must-see" attraction in the region. Who can pass up the opportunity to visit this living archaeological site? I couldn't. I was prepared and anxious when I arrived at 9:30 a.m. My plan was to spend the whole day wandering the narrow allies of this ancient Roman city, but by noon, I was pretty... more

I've just recently returned from Italy which included a trip to Pompeii. I had been looking forward to this visit for a long time. The site itself is fascinating... but a couple of lessons learned that I want to share with you... *Arrive early in the day... being southern Italy, the site gets hot by mid-day. *There are a limited... more
