Hard to describe. Pompeii must have been a planned city. It is so complete and organized. You feel ancient's could walk up to you from around the corner. We loved our visit to Pompeii. We had no guide and the map provided didn't make things any clearer, but I had purchased a book which did have good descriptions of the numbered buildings and gave accurate information about the relics within them.
