If you want to stay close to 5 Star i would stay at the Hotel Nacional however i would only stay at one of the executive rooms which cost around $US200 a night, the food is better, there is internet access and the staff look after you better, there seemed to be mostly English and Canadians in the exec rooms.... more

Hotel Nacional is worth a visit, even if you're not staying there. They do tours 2 or 3 times a day (ask at the information desk for times) explaining the history of the hotel and its famous former guests.
