We were told this was a five star hotel, and it might have been, but now the stars are a bit faded. However that do not matter a whole lot. It is still charming. Only one of the elevators was working, so staying at 17th floor meant quite some waiting, but then staying in Cuba you get use to waiting,... more

I initially stayed at the Riveiera 10 years ago. At that time it was a bit frayed round the edges but still had a bit of its old glory. This time round the experince was a nightmare. When I arrived they had no record of my booking, despite having booked on the internet the day previously and having recieved a confirmation... more

I approached this hotel rather warily, my room having been booked on my behalf; I'd read some alarming things here about the hotel, and my expectations were as a result pretty low. In the event I was pleasanly surprised. The common parts have character, staff were mostly pleasant and obliging, and my room was large and bright. The hotel's location... more

Date 7th March 2008. Very much a sort of up-market backpackers hotel. Had no choice but to stay here as all other hotels were full. Definitely a case of you get what you pay for. Had a room on the 19th floor which would have been nice if: a) it did not smell of mold b) the lifts worked properly... more

I read the reviews here AFTER I booked three nights at the Habana Riviera. I then cancelled two nights and kept one - nothing else was available as communist party delegates were booking up everything for their convention to replace Castro. I was somewhat pleasantly surprised; the hotel room was fine though the hallways were dark and did smell a... more

We were two, and an average rate is only - OK. But I am not going back to this hotel - with in total five more hotels experience in Cuba, Riviera shares the 5th place. On a plus side - very good breakfast buffet and a great view to the city, with good location for people like us. We do... more

First of all, a caveat, I lived and worked in Cuba many years ago, when economic times were not as good as they are now. I have stayed in places with bed bugs, cockroaches, flooding toilets and those which turned out to play host to hookers who rent rooms by the hour, student residences with intermittant water and electricity supplies......and... more

We stayed at this hotel 2 nights. We are well aware of the difficulties Cubans have in obtaining resources, so our expectations are definitely reasonable. The negatives: the room was a bit threadbare and moldy, but could have been much worse. The bathroom was very moldy and it was difficult to keep the water from going all over the floor.... more

This hotel was a nightmare! What was marketed on line by "Wired Destinations" as a four star accommodation, turned out to be a filthy and unpleasant excuse for a hotel. The carpeting was dirty and smelly, and the upholstery on the furniture was so dirty and grimey that one had to avoid sitting on them. This was true both of... more

I have just returned to the UK after 2 weeks in Cuba and all i can say is that Cuba and Hotel Riviera were both excellent. We should have been staying at the Deauville Hotel but due to double booking we got transferred to the Riviera and from the moment we walked in we loved it. The receptionists were polite... more
