On the face of it this is a nice hotel. The reception area is impressive, as is the restaurant area, and the staff seem helpful and friendly. However, we found the hotel lacked character. This was a beautiful Hotel! It was more like a 5 star than a 4 star. Rooms were clean and beautiful. I really enjoyed our stay here. Note that it is not in the city center and it can be confusing to get to things if you have a rental car. more

Despite being located in a touristy town like Lucca, the Guinigi seems to focus on the business/convention clientele. I guess that explains the well sized rooms, and their extensive equipment, which we enjoyed all the same even though we were just tourists ourselves. The Guinigi was a pleasant surprise. The rooms were large, it was air conditioned, and the staff (although limited in their English ability) was eager to serve. Large parking lot was also a plus. The hotel is about a brisk 20 minute walk from the city walls and the walk can be a bit scary--no sidewalks and plenty of Italian... more

We had a very comfortable triple room for one night and wished we were staying longer! Lucca itself is a treasure and fortunately not over-touristed. We arrived in Lucca without hotel reservations in mid May. After checking out different hotels, we were really pleased with the Hotel Guinigi had to offer. Parking is excellent and free.
