First of, the hotel was very expensive and overrated for what was offered. We found our room to be in the basement across from the reception, storage room and the dinning room, (so it was very noisy). Upon our arrival, the hotel charged us extra money for some sort of "city taxes." First impression was terrible, the room was dirty.... more

We had a long weekend in Amsterdam in june 2007. the hotel was very easy to get to and was in a nice quiet area within walking distance of many attractions - heineken brewery, van gogh museum etc. the rooms have been described as compact and yes they are not big but in my opinion the room is merely a... more

The location of the hotel is fine - situated within a relatively quiet district. It is a 10 minute walk to Rembrandt Square and 2 minutes to the nearest tram stop. The hotel itself however leaves a lot to be desired. The room that we stayed in was about 50cm wider than the width of a double bed. There was... more

Recently stayed here for 2 nights, 5 females in our party, all in one room with private facilities.Yes,the hotel is very basic, but it is clean and staff are friendly. You don't go to Amsterdam to sit in your room though!!The city has soo much to offer, our time there went so quickly as there is so much to do and many tastes catered... more

We should have read these reviews before visiting. Beds featured only a terrycloth cover on the mattress and an (unwashed) duvet. Dark halls, tiny rooms, and a seriously unfriendly staff. Would have been disappointing at any price. more

The prices are GOOD rated. The owners are still improving the hotel and are very nice. You can see that they are changing the hotel step by step. Breakfast is separatedfrom the room. For 8 euro you can eat so much HOTEL MAX THANKS FOR GREAT STAY JOHN more

Do not stay at this hotel unless you want to have at least 30 minute walks anywhere, or 10euro taxis at a minimum to see anything. Staying at this hotel for 3 nights, I spent more on taxis than the hotel cost. Also, this hotel sold me and my 3 friends a 4 bed room, that when we arrived had... more

When my girlfriend and I were booking a hostel on-line before departing for Amsterdam, Max in Mokum was a last minute choice becasue of its relatively cheap prices. I wish i'd splashed out a little more! When we arrived, it was possibly one of the farthest hotels from the centre, so much time walking, or money spent on tram rides... more

Very nice staff who helped us very well. All sites are close by. Good restaurants. Nice unbelieveble outdoor albert cuyp market one block away. Formely known as hotel hemonyhof. Owner of the hotel arranged tickets for soccer and theater. We paid more for an sold out match but it was great. Cosy small clean bye bye and see you again... more

An overpriced, small, dank, dark and dingy out of the way place with appalling business practices. Move on folks -- there's many, many places to stay in Amsterdam, no need to waste your time and money with this one. more
