Hotel Barbacan is a great hotel to use as modern, quiet and convieniant base for your time in Amsterdam. We were unsure if it would be the besty choice of hotel, but when we got there we knew it was. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and the location is brilliant. Yes, the stairs are... more

We stayed at the hotel in July 2008 while on a (quiet) stag do, as we were attracted by the low price for the 6 person room. Hotels in Amsterdam are not cheap, but this appeared to be quite reasonable. First of all finding the hotel was easy enough, although we do know Amsterdam quite well. Although the hotel is... more

This was probably the worst hotel experience I have ever had. When we checked in at the hotel, the wall behind the receptionist was filled with printed banners. These were the sort of poster you might imagine hanging in a woman's kitchen; "behind every great man is a better woman", "to err is human, to really mess things up takes... more

My friend and I wanted somewhere cheap and clean to sleep whilst in The Netherlands for a week. The Barbacan provided us with that. It is situated a few minutes away from the Zoo and trams stopped near by. It was quite a long walk to the main attractions though so unless you are super fit or crazy, I wouldn't... more

We stayed in the 6 person room For 2 nights. It was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It was also very quiet at night. We had a private bathroom with shower but it was so small you could hardly move, But thats the only complaint I have. The stairs going up to the rooms are... more

We stayed at this hotel 3rd March 2007. Hotel staff very pleasant and helpfull. The rooms were lovely and clean as were the beds with very white crisp bed linen. We were in the 6 persons room which had plenty room even for 5 girls and a guy. The bathroom was a little bit small, but for the price you... more

This little hotel is very nice. You get everything what you need for a very low price. The rooms are not very big, but it's enough to sleep and taking a shower ;) - most of the time you have to do other things in amsterdam... You can take a 2min walk to the great zoo of amsterdam. And with... more

My husband and I spent 5 nights at this hotel in September. Price was our primary object but based on other reviews we were a little worried about this hotel. It is located near the zoo and is no more than a 20 minute walk to any of the tourist areas. The area is a very quiet residental area and... more

The main problem was that the building opposite had major building work going on so we were woken at 8am by a lot of building noise. Obviously when you are on holiday you don't want to get up so early every day! We thought this hotel looked ok on the website and it was a little more expensive than we... more

Basicly, this was the most lousy hotel I've stayed at (though I guess I deserved it since I only went for the lowest price). The room was the style of a cabin and quite small. It was quite dirty and really hot (no air-condition, just a small window). I didn't use the shower (shared) as it made me think of... more
