I booked here for a business trip because I couldn't get another hotel. But the Lion d'Or was a nice surprise. Centrally located, just opposite the railway station, but also on walkiing distance of the historic town centre. Although the hotel is located at a busy street, it was not noisy at all. This is a wonderful cozy hotel,just across the street from the train station. We stayed in room #2 and room #16 during 2 different occasions. Both rooms were lovely. You can't beat this location for touring in Holland. The train is 50 yards from the Haarlem train station with trains to Amsterdam Centraal Station (15 min), Leiden (20 min), The Hague, Delft, etc. We stayed 6 nights there in early September in preference to crowded Amsterdam, and were really happy with the choice. We stayed here for a weekend in March. We were in room 16, which was big, comfortable, and clean. An extra bed was brought in for our two-year-old, and it still felt spacious. I stayed for 2 nights and was very pleased. I had considered the Carillon or Mozart which are more central for Haarlem but I'm glad I chose the Golden Tulip. We were quite happy with our stay at this hotel. The room was the smallest we had in our entire trip, but it was clean, and they provided a very nice breakfast. The location is perfect, just steps from the train station. Considering the special rate for 80 Euros/ night we got online, the room was a good value. more

We stayed at the Golden Tulip Lion D'Or in June, 04. The property is in a really good location, across from the rail station, and away from the church bells.
