A perfect B&B! - Location is great and quite unique: in the upper (university) part of town. Parking is, therefore, a bit of an issue, but can easily be solved by using a paid parking spot when arriving during office hours, and moving the car just around the corner once university staff and students have moved theirs. - Room was... more
Definiteley not for anyone with more than a small holdall or rucksack as there are LOTS of steep and narrow stairs to get to your garret;or for anyone not prepared to trundle suitcases through cobbled streets. Rooms very basic and extremely pokey. Breakfasts not at all as described. Having said all that the owners are friendly and helpful. Took us... more
We had read great reviews about Casa Pombal and were dissapointed. It was reaaallllly frayed in the edges. The beds were the ones which fold up - army beds( maybe). Very uncomfortable. They turn off the electricity at 11:30 pm or so - the heat gets turned off too. It was really cold in the morning. The breakfast was rolls... more
We liked the comfy feel in this small hotel. The Dutch folks who run it were very personable and eager to help us tour the town. They went all out with their breakfast which included items we did not see during the rest of our time in Portugal. There was a computer for guests to use. I might best describe... more
We stayed at Casa pombal in Coimbra mid Sept 07, the view was amazing. The rooms were quiet, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was clean, tidy and had some lovely extras that really feel like a treat for travellers, body lotion and hairdryer. Breakfast was varied and healthy and we recieved informative, helpful and very friendly information from the lady... more
The Casa Pombal is a bit frayed around the edges, but retains some charm. The owners are friendly and extremely helpful, and the breakfast was varied and generous, continental-style, in a little room decorated with lovely blue tiles overlooking the small garden area. Our room was reasonably comfortable, with ensuite, though perhaps in need of a little TLC in the... more
Somewhat basic, clean, comfortable accommodation. Excellent breakfast and friendly helpful Dutch proprietor. Well located next to university, high above the city centre, which is accessible by steep alleys and lanes. Close to the “Elevador do Mercado”, eliminating a hard slog to get back up the hill. Good value. Multiple narrow stairways to rooms. Had a fabulous view of the city... more
There is no place I would recommend more strongly. Extremely clean, located in the most atmospheric of locations on a hill overlooking Coimbra, staff is very personable and helpful. Do everything you can to stay here! more
Pombal is a friendly Dutch run townhouse high up in the hills of Coimbra near the unniversity. We liked the bohemian, colourful interior and the charming little walled garden to the rear... our room was fairly basic but comfortable - the ones at the back have lovely views of the town. The owners were very helpful and advised us on... more
