Having read good reviews, we decided to give it a try for a weekend stay. On arrival in the evening we were asked which newspaper we wanted for the morning when we checked in, but we did not receive any in the morning the same occurred the second morning. When we asked for it at the reception, we were told... more

I have known the Old England for years, and was pleased to see the scale of the investment that has recently been made into updating and improving what were quite tired facilities. I arranged a small business conference here and every one of the delegates was bowled over by it. I should also say that the conference rate was very... more

Hotels in England will always seem pricey to travellers from abroad as long as the Pound Sterling retains it strength. The Old England Hotel is no exception in that regard, but, all told, it is a very nice hotel that pleased my very particular wife considerably. The views out over the lake from our room were quite good, and the... more

Excellent hotel in a good location right on the shore of the lake. We stayed in the old part of the hotel which has recently been refurbished and was much larger than expected and comfortable. The bar, restaurant and terrace all had excellent view of the lake. The restaurant was good or excellent on all counts and worth staying at... more

Just got back from a great stay at this lovely hotel. Our room was huge and the bathroom lovely, the only problem was there was no mirror where the hairdryer was attached to the wall and no plug sockets near the mirror!! Bed was massive and very comfy. The staff at this hotel are excellent, very friendly and efficient. The... more

From the first moment we entered the reception area of the hotel the staff were very friendly, attentive but never over-bearing. They made us feel special and nothing was a problem. The public areas (lounge and restaurant) were beautifully decorated with fabulous views of the lake and surrounding hills. Our room was small, although well decorated and extremely clean and... more

Just had a four night stay in this hotel and what a wonderfully, pleasant, relaxing experience it was. We got the room on a special weekday offer of £60 per person per night (£120 per room), which included cooked & continental breakfast, use of the spa / gym and a cruise on the lake. Our room was stylish, very comfortable... more

This is the best surprise I’ve ever had with a hotel. POSITIVE surprise. I’ve been to England over 12 times in under 10 years and love seeing the variety of hotel rooms. Being a bargain hunter and a single traveler (usually), I’ve gotten stuck with some pretty small rooms. But, since they are just to sleep and wash in, I... more

We stayed at the Old England last weekend and it was not quite as good as I had expected based on some of the reviews. We were greeted by a receptionist who was busy having a conversation with another member of staff whilst he checked us in. He then went onto make a call in which he was explaining to... more
