On a visit to Las Cruces I was taken to the Torch Restaurant at Meson de Mesilla and treated to the "chef's table." We sat at nice wood table in the kitchen near the pastry chef's work space. What a peculiar experience. First of all the wait staff was superb. Our server was smart, attentive, attractive, and very clearly more sophisticated than what we were expecting, she knew the wines and apprently knew the chef and his cuisine quite well, we asked her name, her name was Julie and our attentive front of the house manager was Janet.... more
