WORST HOTEL IN CABARETE

I went to the Dominican Republic for 2 weeks for my honeymoon and I REGRET my stay at Viva Tangerine. Upon arrival we were shown 3 different rooms before we were placed in one. All rooms were in bad conditions. Some smelled like tobacco, others smelled like mold. The walls were not fully painted. The couches were dirty and stained. The bed sheets had holes in it. The bathroom had mold growing in it. There were dead bugs in the shower. Moreover, there were dirty plates on top of the garbage cans in the common areas as well as cups and coffee cups. To top all of it up, the food was terrible and although we spent 1 1/2 hours in the buffet no one offered us anything to drink not even water. The hotel was so bad that we only lasted one night there before leaving to another hotel. It is a real shame that this hotel is in such condition specially carrying the Wyndham name.

Great place for a family

The hotel and its people are great! and they take very good care of you. Its also has a very convenient location. We highly recommend it for families with kids, rather than for singles or couples. As far as food, we would rate it average. The breakfasts were great. We never got to have lunch there, but the dinners were OK, at best. Non-the-less there was always food and drinks around if you wanted it. Also, the pool is smaller than we thought and was a bit old. But don’t let that fool you, we were very happy with the accommodations.

Definitely wold not go back!

The hotel condition and food were fine. What was unpleasant to us was the beach, which was nice in the morning. then at about noon the kite-boarders took over. It was unsafe to go in because there was no contolling them. They kept coming right on top of you at @20 miles/hr. There were at least a 100 of them and they have the whole ocean, so why wasn’t there any control. Also if you want a relaxing vacation dom’t go here! Starting Friday the locals come. I have no problem with Dominicans,I even married one. The problem is there were too many kids and no enforcement of rules. The pool became over crowded and very loud. Like a public pool in New York City with out control. That is not my idea of a relaxing Caribbean vacation and would definely not go here again!

Dissapointed

Our stay at the Wyndham Tangerine was a huge dissapointment and we would not go back there again. The rooms were below average. The airconditioner does not work properly. We requested for a room change on our 3rd day, hoping that we can get a room with a working a/c but the second room was still warm. It seems like the hotel turns on the a/c at 1am and turns it off at 9am. Those were the hours when the a/c would be working properly. The double lock on our first room does not work and we did not feel safe because we heard that there were 2 robberies that happened during our stay. The buffet restaurant was average. Breakfast food was almost the same everyday. There were not enough choices for lunch. Dinner was interesting because they have "themes" for each night. They had a Dominican dinner, BBQ dinner, Italian dinner during the nights we were there. The pool area was quite nice and big. It is quite crowded during the weekends so its harder to get a spot by the pool. The beach was okay. There are a lot of kite surfers. The vendors are quite annoying but once you buy something, they stop hounding you for the rest of your stay. Overall, we were not satisfied with the accommodations but we made the most out of vacation.

For couples and families, try to go on a photo session with the hotel photographer. You are not required to buy any of the pictures taken but they take great pictures and capture unforgettable moments so you will definitely end up buying something that are worth it.

Okay deal for the money

We knew going in that we didn’t pay top price for this hotel, so it wasn’t going to be perfect. But, the air conditioning barely worked the whole time, and they didn’t fix it. Also, the food was terrible and the room was pretty small and uncomfortable. The entertainment staff was great! The pool and beach were beautiful. Overall, for the money, it wasn’t that bad of a deal, but I probably wouldn’t stay there again.

Traveler's tip on dining

Make reservations at the Italian and Mexican restaurants as soon as you arrive and for as many nights as possible because the buffet food sucked.

An okay place but probably wouldn’t go back not a 3 star

Was disappointed in the room itself. Terrible sofa in the room. Bed okay. Cheap, cheap looking furniture. Beautiful beach though. Grounds were very pretty. Food was okay.

Would never stay there again.

We stayed at this all inclusive resort for three nights. Each and every night we were changed to a different room. They claimed they were having a problem with their air conditioners. It was terrible after spending the day out and on the beach to come back and have to pack up again and move. Most of the staff was not friendly, a couple of the cleaning ladies were nice. The food was not good at all. The swimming pool was pretty small and looked dirty. We did not swim in it. I would definitely never step foot there again.

Perfect place

This hotel is very nice, the rooms are cozy but comfy, the food is great, the bar is always crowded though- slow. And the buffet closes 10 minutes before its supposed to every seating time breakfast , lunch and dinner. So you can’t run in at the last minute they kick you out and they remove all serving utensils so you can eat even if you try. the pool closes at 6pm enforced by security. I had an incident at the store they have on premises where they had a molded cartoon of beers I was attempting to buy but the bottom sogged and the bottle fell right out on the floor splashing beer and glass all over and cutting me. The cashier yelled at me and demanded that i pay for it -treating me like a criminal, never even attempting to see if I was ok or badly injured. Needles to say I couldn’t get into any beach or pool after that. Luckily I rbought first aid with me. The guests services tried to help but didn’t get me a manager and I never got an apology. However I didn’t let that change my view on the hotel I had a very fun time there the entertainment is good!!

Bring lots of single dollar bills for tipping on or off premises you get extra friendly help for a buck any where you go.

A good time!

If you are looking for a fun relaxing getaway where this is the perfect spot! The room was a little sparse and very basic, but did the job. The staff was very engaging and always made sure you were having a good time. There are fun exersions that you can take if you are interested or if you just want to relax, the beach is perfect! I would definitely go back!

if you can’t / couldn’t thoroughly enjoy this hotel and property then the ’problem’ isn’t the hotel

Great Beach setting, take an endless walk (many)Ride a horse. The breeze off the ocean is perfect and the pool setting and design is great. Gardens are fantastic. Eating rooms and under canopy areas are clean, comfortable and plentiful. Best value in Cabarete.

Traveler's tip on dining

Yes DO ’tip’ the hard working staff of this well run resort.

Great location but unsatisfactory condition for

We wanted to stay in Cabarete because it is supposed to be one of the top destinations for windsurfing and kiteboarding. Viva Tengerine is about the only all-inclusive hotel right on Cabarete beach so we picked it for our honeymoon. The property is fairly small but landscaping is beautiful. The huge disappointment was the condition of the rooms - even though the hotel is supposedly only a few years old, the rooms looked like they were built in the 80s and not maintained since then. Fixtures were old, the drain was not working well, the stopper in the sink kept clogging up... It’s just not what you see in a nice all-inclusive Caribbean resort. If they give the place a facelift it would be a great place to stay. The food was excellent and if you like Cabarete, it’s only a 5 minute walk on the beach.

Traveler's tip on dining

Make sure to sample some of the great restaurants in Cabarete, even though you’ve paid for all inclusive.

can’t wait to go back

The only thing that was missing from this hotel was the opportunity to surf.

Great, relaxing vacation!

Wonderful hotel! Great customer service, very friendly staff, beautiful location, great food, and a variety of activities to keep the whole family entertained. The one thing I would have liked to see more of would be salsa/merengue dancing. The disco was open every night (a bit too late for my taste--midnight), but they played very little salsa/merengue music. Other than that, everything was wonderful and we look forward to going back soon!

Very relaxing and fun.

This hotel is right on the beach and all the amenities are close together. The buffet is two steps from the bar. The bar is about twenty steps from the pool and then your only about another twenty steps from having your feet in the sand. The beach and the water are beautful. The room was very clean and the air conditioning worked well. All of the staff are friendly and available to help make your stay a pleasant one. The grounds were clean and well kept. The food was good and there was a good variety of items to choose from. This hotel is a great to place to stay and a good value for the money.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

There is pleanty to do in the town of Cabarete. The nightlife is great and there is something for everyone. If you want to shop or dance and party at one of the clubs on the beach, you can find it in Cabarete. Try Jose O’Sheas if you want to find a good sports bar. It is right on the beach and the have plenty of TVs’for everyone to watch alll the sports action.
