“Had a great time”

We have small children and had a great time. I took heed of previous reviews and ensured that we had a Level 6 Ocean view room in the Carlton wing and the view was superb. The room could have been bigger , but to be honest we barely spent anytime in it.

The waterpark kept my two amused for hours, and the pool is nice if a bit sandy. This would appear to be from ignorant guests walking straight off the beach, passing the showers and into the pool to wash their feet....nice.

Our children went to kids club twice - first day no problem. Second day, when my husband went to collect them the carer and both children were asleep on bean bags. Use this at your own risk and when they take the children swimming watch your kids like hawks, as the staff sure as heck won't.

Wait staff and bell hops were great - front desk were just pig ignorant. This place is expensive, but I found Bermuda expensive. Be careful, they not only add 15% to EVERY bill, they also charge you resort tax and about $10 per day, per person in tips for front desk, bell hops and guest services. I'm sorry, I had to tip front desk?? Unbelievable.

The island is stunning, we had fun, but would I stay here again - not without children.

“Pretty Island, Rude People”

Wyndham Bermuda Resort & Spa

We recently returned from a week at the Wyndham Hotel in Southampton, Bermuda.
We are a well-travelled couple, who have visited most of the islands in the Caribbean and most of Europe.
While Bermuda remains one of the prettiest islands anywhere, albeit one of the most expensive, the extreme rudeness of its people and the poor quality of its service in restaurants and stores, will prohibit any further trips to this island.
This hotel needs to hire professional people on the desk who know how to smile and truly enjoy working with the public.
Several enquiries were met with a snarl, a sigh or a rolling of the eyes.
We unfortunately met with the same response several times in stores in Hamilton and St. Georges.
Travel on the busses at your own risk during school leaving or starting times. We experienced students pushing, shoving and actually verbally abusing tourists as a form of entertainment.
The rooms at this hotel were adequate, but it is the service, or lack of it, which was unforgettable.
We shall not return to this island.

“Good value. Bad service. Rude staff.”

We stayed at the Wyndham for our wedding. Most of our 20 guests also stayed there. It was a good choice for our family members with children, but otherwise, it left a lot to be desired.

The Good: The hotel has an amazing view of the water and some wonderful beach spots. It also has an on-site water park with multiple pools. Our nieces and nephews loved that, especially the water slides -- so for families with kids, this is a great hotel. Also, compared to some of the other hotels in the area, the Wyndham seems to be a good value -- nice, clean rooms at a great location.

The Bad: Front desk staff were, quite frankly, rude and unpleasant both to us and many of our guests. One guests' bags were delayed and was waiting on them to wear to our wedding. The bags arrived in time, but despite our guest explaining his probem and asking to be told when they arrived, they didn't bother to notify him when the bags did arrive, so he had no dress clothes to wear.... Just bad service. Rooms were not ready on time for us and many of our guests. Housekeeping staff seemed to neglect rooms and we had to call them to have them make up the room. My key card stopped working twice in three days, and every time I had to return to the front desk to have it re-set, and staff seemed hostile and annoyed, as if I was to blame for their bad keycard system. This happened to other guests as well. Finally, the restaurant in the hotel is VERY expensive, even for Bermuda. Many of the wait staff in the restaurant seem annoyed by simple requests for things like coffee, utensils, or water. Breakfast shouldn't cost you $25-$30 per person, especially with surly servers. And since the resort is somewhat isolated from other spots on the island, you don't have many alternatives.

“Wyndham Stay”

WE spent 5 nights over Labor Day weekend at the Wyndham in an oceanview room in the Carlton wing. We checked in about noon and was thrilled our room was ready. When the reservation was made, I had told them we definitely needed a fridge in our room cause a family member had medication that needed to be refrigerated. This was confirmed by phone 3 times. We get to the room and I was very dissapointed. No fridge, the carpet and walls looked dirty, but we did have a nice view from the balcony. My son pulled back one of the covers from the bed and there was a blood stain on it. Also, the tub in the bathroom had brown stains all over the bottom. Everyday I noticed glass on the bathroom floor and finally realized someone (from a previous stay) must have dropped something behing the toilet. When housekeeping mopped the floor, the mop must have left pieces.

My husband and son changed into their bathingsuits and headed over to the waterpark. I called the front desk to inform them of the problems in the room. Needless to say, I spent three hours waiting for a fridge and the bedding to be changed. First they brought me a fridge that didn't get cold and leaked and housekeeping just wanted to change the comforter. I told them that I wanted the new sheets, blanket and cover since there was no way I would sleep on the original bedding. Then as the new fridge was delivered, I got a call saying they were all out of fridges. I was told the stains in the tub was due to someone dying their hair in it. How many people do you know that dye their hair on vacation, usually it's done before.

We ended up making the best of it. But, for the price we paid for the room, I did expect a larger one. Every morning I left money for housekeeping and they did a good job replenishing fresh towels and cleaning.

The waterpark was fun and we did spend a lot of time in the pool. I really don't care for pools that much, but the beach water was very murky. There were little ants in the sand, also.

I can't comment on the food because except for one breakfast, we never ate there.

Horseshoe Bay beach was wonderful as always.

RESTAURANTS We loved Henry V111 so much, we ate their twice. The cajun rockfish is absolutely delicious. For dessert, the creme brulee and lemon tart is good.

Swizzle Inn - Hubby and I shared a pitcher of rum swizzle and had the fish and chips. My son had a burger. All was good.

Bacci - We ate their and found the food to be good, but very pricey.

Lobsterpot - The spiny lobster was yummy.

OVERALL I've been to Bermuda many times in the past and enjoyed it every time. I would not stay at the Wyndham, though.
If you have 3 kids, lets say, it may be worth it for the waterpark alone.. But, any couple that stays there without kids is making a poor choice. There are much better hotels, with better rooms, service and beaches.

Just a note, I packed hangers with me and was glad I did. Most hotels do not give many and I've found it's worthwhile to bring them (and just leave them there)

“Stay elsewhere”

Wyndham Bermuda Resort & Spa

We recently stayed at the Wyndham during my first visit to Bermuda. Had I not gone and visited other resorts on the island, it probably would have also been my last visit to Bermuda.

I frequently stay at seaside resorts for work and have never found a ruder or more impatient staff. The wait staff was inattentive. Housekeeping basically just pulled up the covers and changed the towels each day, except for the day they half made the bed and left us with no towels at all. Aside from the Guest Services, spa, and dive staffs, which were very helpful, you got the feeling that the staff was inconvenienced by your presence. However they were kind enough to tack on 15-20% gratuities for YOUR convenience.

The beach and waterpark is great for kids, but is also open to the public for a small fee, so on weekends it is impossible for hotel guests to actually get chairs. Restaurants opened later than advertised, bars closed earlier. Food service was so slow that one friend waited an hour for a takeout order of chicken fingers for her son.

The rooms were standard. However you should insist on an ocean view. We arrived late and overlooked the garbage disposal and the balconies of all the guests facing the lagoon. There are ants all over the grounds of the resort, including the rooms. And the shower is so narrow that you have to stand sideways.

We were in Bermuda for a family wedding and fortunately had the opportunity to visit other resorts, such as The Reefs, The Fairmont Southampton, and Coco Reefs. As soon as we stepped off the grounds of the Wyndham, we were greeted by kindness and hospitality wherever we went. I will definitely visit Bermuda again. It's the Wyndham Bermuda Resort & Spa that I will never go back to.
