“Excellent Value”

Sirenis Tropical Suites

May 2, 2008
2/2 found this review helpful

The High Points:

1) Beautiful grounds; lush, well tended gardens, very clean

2) Exquisite beach

3) Good food

4) Great drinks

5) Pleasant and attentive staff

The Not So High Points:

1) VERY hard beds

2) Mediocre (at best) air conditioning

3) Stiff competition for shade at both the pool and beach (Get before 6:00 am to reserve)

4) Long ride from airport on very poor road

The resort is large so be prepared to do a considerable amount of walking. This resort would not be suitable for those with mobility challenges. The a la carte reservation system is a bit wonky (line ups 2 x per day) but the restaurants were all good so its worth your time to line up. Our group liked the Japanese and Mexican best. but the Italian and Steakhouse were also good.

Service was very good irrespective of whether or not you tipped the staff. Little things could be improved - there are more restrooms needed at the beach on the Tropical side. The air conditioning could also be improved.

Overall, this resort offers excellent value.

“Sirenis is brilliant!!!”

Never been all inclusive nor to Dominican before, but Sirenis was brilliant.

Staff are very pleasant and can't do enough for you. They're all so happy!! Grounds were gorgeous, beach was like it was out of a picture postcard, food and drinks were amazing and the place was really spotless. Choice of mexican, italian, japanese, american, dominican etc food through a choice of different restaurants you could book into on site, or just two huge buffet restaurants serving continental food. All really, really great food.

Lots of nighttime entertainment too, plus a outdoor theatre and disco on site which was funny!! Did 3 trips....helicopter trip (astounding!!), swam with sharks and stingrays (amazing!!) and went over to Saona Island (DEFINITELY recommend it).

Would go back tomorrow if I could, definitely going back next year. Is the sort of place where you could feel really safe on your own as well.

ONE IMPORTANT THING: Book with Thomson or a proper tour operator....we booked through a smaller website and ended up with HOLA TOURS (Dominican based) who were bloody awful, didn't arrange any of our pre-paid airport transfers (stranded at the airport isn't nice!), and left it five days to even say hello and tell us to book all trips through them (hello? we'd already done 2!!). Absolutely rubbish.

Thomson took us under their wing, their Thomson Sirenis Rep CARLY deserves a gold medal and to win the lottery, she's totally fantastic. Don't know what we'd have done without her!

“A hidden Jem +++++”

Sirenis Tropical Suites

May 1, 2008
3/3 found this review helpful

I just returned from a wonderful week Apr 19-Apr26 at the Sirenis Tropical Suites Resort . Being in the travel industry I can say that this truly is a hidden jem !

Pool: Wonderful !!! Very big with different sections with varying depths . There is a pyramid in the middle of the pool which is awesome for just sitting and relaxing . We had brought our own floaties which was a good idea ! The 2 swim up bars are really good . The bartenders are always there with a smile ! The one by the Cocotal section is a alot more lively .

Beach : Beautiful !!! Never had any problems getting chairs and we always went around 10:30 ! The beach BBQ is excellent !
There are vendors on both side of the beach - Approx 5 minutes each way . We went on the left and went to see Louis in hut # 1 . He was awesome and gave us really good deals . He was very laid back and was not pushy at all ! P.S He loves Pizza so try to bring him a slice !!!

Food: Excellent !!!!! We did 3 a la carte restaurants - Steakhouse , Italian and Japanese ! They were all very good but the Japanese is a must . The overall experience as well as the food is amazing ! You can make your reservations for the a la carte restaurants the same day you want to go or up to 3 days in advance - example if you go on Monday , you can make reservations up until Wednesday . The buffet was excellent as well . Always a good variety !

Rooms: The rooms are honestly the only small negative . They need renovations but in general they were very good . Very spacious , big closets , very clean . We did have a small problem with the AC - we couldn't figure out how to turn it on :) . Once we got it , it was fine . The turn on is one of the light switches . We called the front desk and it didn't take long for the maintenance to come over and show us .

Entertainment: I cannot say enough about the wonderful entertainment staff . They work so hard and always have a huge smile . Spaghetti , Chico Rico , Eddie Murphy , Jimmy Jam , Macaroni , Romeo and the list goes on . They are great at what they do and are HILARIOUS !!!! Get ready to laugh !
The shows at night start around 9:00 with the ice breaker and then at 9:30 the main show begIns . They were great !! After the show around 11:00 the house band played right beside the main stage and the disco which was very convenient . You didn't have to go far . The disco does open at 11:00 but mostly everybody watched the house band and had a few drinks ( 2 bars right there ) and then at 12:00 once the house band was done , everybody would head to the disco . A little downfall was that the drinks are not included at the disco . I did buy 1 drink the last night - a rum and coke and it was a good size for $5.00 usd !!!

Late check out: Our return flight was a evening flight and we decided not to pay the $50.00usd fee to keep our room until 6:00pm . We checked out at 12:00pm and left our luggage at the lobby - no problems at all . The spa has a few showers so we got ready for our flight there . They provide towels , shampoo and soap ! It was very convenient !

Overall: I absolutely loved this resort ! The staff really does make the resort . I would go back in a heartbeat !

I have just returned from Sirenis with my 17 year old son. The grounds and gardens are truly amazing! The gardeners must be applauded!! How ever I found any phone contact with front desk an impossible task. Not a very good command of english and disconnected often. Asked for a wake up call and never received it, nor ever saw a bell boy when requested. IMPOSSIBLE to get a reservation at a la carte restaurants, booked up for the week!!! Sewer back up in our room!!! Had to wait three nights before they could accomadate us with a new room. Brochure says electric same as Canada, NOT! (bring an adapter) Buffet brutal!! Thank good for the best meal we were served, on an excursion to Saona Island, well worth it. Pool great, beach awesome!!!!!! Most staff very nice. Weird cleaning schedule the maids had, sometimes cleaning late in the day when we wanted to use our room.

“much better than I thought”

Sirenis Tropical Suites

We've booked last minute for this hotel (reservation made on 14th and departure was on 19th of april). So since it was a last minute deal, we did not have much choice. We were looking for a 4stars or more with a limited budget. Sirenis was the only one available... in my mind it's not looking good.. well we want to go away for 1 week, lets go... I have been looking at plenty of pictures, none really seemed appealing... but hey a sun and a beach will be fine...
So we arrived on the 20th early at 3h30 am, got our room on the spot, grabbed a little something to eat on our way to our room. (I think it's nice to have the resto open all night for those who arrived in the middle of the night. Not that there is a lot to eat, but some croissants with fruits will just do fine until breakfast). At night the place looked nice, we were anxious to see it by daylight. Anyway, we went in the room and we felt really tight. There is a bedroom and a living room, but it seemed to be really small. The room was very clean, but needs some paint job, decoration and repairs. There were no bedspread, really it's not the best room I ever got. So with a bit of disappointment, we went to front desk asking for a better room with ocean view (ours was court view...) Manuel told us to come back the next morning, which we did. Sayonara said they were full and did not have anything. She wrote our room # in a black book and told us to come back the next morning... I thought she would forget all about it.. The next morning we went back. she got us a marvelous room. We got ocean and pool views... it was just perfect. Not that the room was better, it was the exact same layout, but just the views.. we did not mind anymore the room.. Anyway we slept there and that's all... so....The grounds are really nice, well maintained, there are security guards on the site. That is great for 2 lonely women. It is really beautiful.. The employees are fantastic. They are friendly, nice, helpful. There is nothing negative about them. They were all great with us. Service at the italian resto was so so. Food at the vegetarian and italian resto was not great. I believe the buffets have a lot to offer for all meals and again the employees are just lovable. We enjoyed the fresh fruits juices every morning. Alcool is not a problem... they are sometimes too generous with it unlike many other resorts. We wanted a quiet vacation, doing nothing but sunbathing. Although weather was not the best (rain all day 1 day and clouds everyday) we were able to spend our time either at beach or pool or at the resto while drinking a margarita.
The beach is not like the ones you find in Cuba, but it's nice. Plenty of palm trees and huts. As in many resorts, people reserved their spot very early in the morning... we had to wake up at 5h30 or 6h00 to make sure we got OUR hut !!! You would be surprised to see all these people that early in the morning...
My only negative about this hotel is the lack of shops. There are some little stores at the main entrance, but nothing good (1 clinic, 1 pharmacy, 1 "convenience"store, 1 "souvenir"store....) Most of the little mall is empty. There are just a few stores... We did not spend a penny and we chose not to take any trip outside the resort.
We saw a couple of shows. They were very good. We were very pleased. The GO seemed fun. We did not join any of the games or activities. They were all at the Cocotal side and we were Tropical (quiet side).
Oh one last thing, the pictures don't show the real Sirenis. It is truly more beautiful when you are there. I was a bit scared as I explained but really, it is a nice place to go, simple but neat. I am used to hotel way more luxurious than this one, and I would not hesitate to go back . Don't let yourself influence by bad comments... because they is nothing bad about this hotel... Everything is great and perfect. It will remain in my mind for a very long time.
