My husband and I went to the Dominican Republic as part of a larger vacation (we stayed in Florida for a few days prior and a day after our Dominican trip). We chose the Dominican because it was reasonably priced and was easy to travel to from the Florida area. We chose the Princess Punta Cana resort because it was an Adult Only All-Inclusive resort and had favorable reviews on the site.

Accommodations: We stayed in a top floor suite and the room was beautiful. The high ceilings and large daybed were nice surprises. Housekeeping was not exceptional; everything seem to be done in stages and began early in the morning so after the first day we did not get new towels and were left without washcloths for the remainder of our stay (the towel person came knocking before we got of bed in the morning so we always had to turn her away). The in-room mini-bar was limited - two bottles of pop, two beers and two bottles of water all restocked daily and one bottle of local whiskey.

Amenities: Pool was very nice, kept at a comfortable temperature and the swim up bar is always great. However, there were a limited number of chairs, daybeds, and tiki huts which all filled up by early morning. There was a rule about not saving spaces but who wants to get into a fight with someone over a chair when you are confined to the resort space with them for the next few days? The beachside huts and daybeds, when available, were fantastic. Huts were especially nice when it rained all day – allowed us to be outside but kept us dry. And surprisingly all of the nightlife activities were next door at the family resort so this resort was very quiet after dinner.

Service: I have to admit that the service was below my expectations. I have previously stayed at all-inclusive resorts (Sandals begin the most recent) and resort staff is generally exceptional. One thing I was not happy with was tipping for everything was expected and didn’t seem appreciated. Also, while US $ was the standard in the resort, the resort staff was very limited in their English language skills. I have generally had a feeling of pampering when I stay at all-inclusive resorts and here I felt like I was intruding most of the time.

Food & Beverage: Definitely edible, I certainly didn’t starve during my stay. The fondue restaurant was fun and it was nice to have options outside of buffets. I was disappointed in the “premium” shelf liquor. As a VIP guest we were suppose to have access to the premium liquors however it was difficult to find any. I think they keep any name-brand liquors hidden in cabinets at the bars and you have to ask specifically for them when ordering drinks.

Overall, the trip was very nice; the island was gorgeous, the resort was satisfactory and beaches were great.

My Husband, Son, his Girlfriend and myself stayed at the Punta Cana Princess for one week beginning April 17th. We had booked through AirTransat Regency Club. So once we arrived at the airport we were met by a representative who directed us to the bus, which took us to the Resort. Everything went very smooth. As we were checking in, a bar server brought us a drink and welcomed us to the resort which we thought was very nice. We received the rooms we requested and were given directions and told our luggage would follow. Within a matter of minutes, our luggage was brought to our rooms. We had a late flight time, so the only thing that was open was the beach bar and that's where we headed! There we met our first friend, Andy, the bartender. From that first meeting, Andy new exactly what drink to make us when he saw us coming!! He didn't speak very good english, but we all managed to communicate.
The grounds of the resort we spotless! Not once did I see garbage laying around. The landscaping was perfect at all times. It was beautiful!
The beach was also kept very clean. It was cleaned in the morning and again in the afternoon. As another person wrote, it was very difficult to get a beach bed or lounge chair on the beach or at the pool. One morning we did go out at 7:00 am to get a beach bed. The only problem is, one always has to stay on the bed or you can lose it. We used it until lunch time and then gave it up to others that were waiting.
Our room was always cleaned properly and the fridge was stocked daily. The only problem I had with the maid was trying to get beach towels. She kept telling me she would bring them in the afternoon and never did. We tried tipping her and that didn't work, so we saved the tips for the ones the earned them.
That's one thing we found out, if you tip well, you get treated well!! So, if you decide to go, make sure you have a lot of $1. they work wonders.
Another tip, make sure you take everything you need, including munchies!! The little gift shop on site is really expensive!! They wanted $22. US for a can of sunscreen!!!
The head of Entertainment, Jesus, was a great help to us. My Son was planning on getting engaged at the resort and he wanted to do it in the Lobby in front of everyone. There was one night that there was a piano player and everyone was dancing and having a great time. So, with the help of Jesus, he gave my Son the microphone and in the middle of the evening he got on his knee and popped the question! It was great!!! Oh ya, she said yes!!!! Many thanks to Jesus!!
All in all, we had a great time and are already planning to go back to this resort in Feb. / 09 for my Hubby's 50th birthday! One of the seller's was that it was an adult only resort and it was nice and quiet. If we wanted more action, then we could go to one of the sister resorts.
So, we'll be back!!!

My husband and I along with two other couples traveled to the Punta Cana Princess the beginning of April 2008. Overall I have to say we really enjoyed this resort, however we did have some problems. This may be a bit long but bare with me, hopefully it will give a good honest review.

Flight - We travelled down with the Regency Club through Air Transat. Flight was fine. It was very early in the morning and a bit cramped but I guess that is to be expected on these kinds of airlines. Bus to the resort was actually a lot of fun.

Check in - Check in on the other hand did not go so well. If you go here and have someone by the name of Solomon serve you at the front desk wait for someone else. He was rude and just overall a jerk. We had requested to be in the same building as our friends and we had also requested king beds. They had us in separate buildings in two double beds. Also we had been told that Regency Club guests were in either building 4 or 5. This is not the case. You only get in building 5 if you specifically book an oceanview room, which was not offered to us at the time of booking. However if you kick up enough of a stink and maybe throw in a few tears they are pretty quick to try to accomodate you. They were not able to do anything for us the first night but asked us to come down the next morning and they would move us which they did. We also waited a long time for our luggage to arrive at our room got fed up and finally went and got our own. So once we were all situated in our final rooms for the week everything went much better.

Rooms - We ended up in a king room in building 1. I was a little concerned about this but actually the room we were in was really nice. We were in 1009. It was very spacious and very clean. The bed was surprisingly comfortable and the shower had good pressure. May seem trivial to some but I like a shower with pressure. The rooms do however have a smell to them. Not a bad smell but I was wishing I had brought a scented candle or some room spray. I did brew some coffee and that helped. It is almost an over air conditioned smell or something but not so bad that it bothered you.

Resort - The resort itself was beautiful. The grounds were so well kept and everything was clean. The pool was really nice with a swim up bar. We really didn't have much trouble finding a lounge chair but if you want a bed you had better plan to be out early, like 6-6:30 am. We really didn't care and really didn't want to get up that early so we just took what we could find. Although you are not suppose to, everyone does reserve with towels and books.

A la Carte Restaurants - We ate at all of the a la cartes with the exception of Mare Nostrum in the evening. We really enjoyed La Petite Fondue. The Tex Mex Steakhouse was good as well. The Italian was OK for the main dishes but the starters they bring are delicious. We also tried two restauarants over at the other resort. We ate at the Mexican which again was good and the Chinese which I think was my favourite. The starters there were excellent as well and I really enjoyed my curry chicken dish. However we had two who had the pork and did not enjoy it and one who had the beef and said it wasn't very good either.

Buffet - We ate primarily at the main buffet up by the lobby for breakfast and we alternated between there and the Mare Nostrum for lunch. The selection is better at the main buffet but I did enjoy the nachos and pizza down by the beach. The Mare Nostrum also had one of our favourite waiters, Sarapio. Another great person was Santa. We ate at the buffet one night and it was fine. You really don't go to an all inclusive for the food.

I guess that is about it. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Punta Cana Princess. It was relaxing and quiet. The fact that it was adults only was a real bonus as we were there for a relaxing take it easy kind of time. Now I will warn that this is not a party resort. There isn't much in the way of night life. There were activities in the lobby at night that we went to but at the end of the day we were so exhausted we really weren't all that interested in night life. There is however a disco on the other resort you can go to if you want a party. So if you are looking to just kick back and relax in a quiet surrounding definitely consider this resort.

We stayed at the Punta Cana Princess From April 7 to April 21 and our stay at the resort was for the most part enjoyable.

This is a lovely well kept resort . The grounds are perfect and the pool and beach are spectacular. This resort seems to be maintained better than its two sister resorts next door.

We found the food to be better than most resorts we have visited ( 4th time to the DR) and there were always lots of choice at the buffett each night. We ate at 4 of the restaurants are they were all good - Steak house, mexican, fondue and italian. The restaurants on the resort don't take reservations so you need to show up early (before 7PM) or you could be in for a long wait. The restaurants of the sister resorts next door need to be reserved and I like this better as you know there will be a table available for you.

This is a very quiet resort with little night life - after 10PM everybody is gone to bed, Perfect if this is what you want but don't expect it to be party central. You can go next door to see a show or go to the disco (only has free drinks from 11-12) if you want a bit more nightlife.

I had a few issues with trying to get a place to lie down at the beach or pool. People are up as early as 5:30 reserving their chairs and by 8;00 there is nothing left. Hotel policy says this is not allowed but everyone including the staff ignores this. They really could use more loungers on both the pool and beach areas.

Service at the buffett is good but there were times that it seems the staff were overworked and it was difficult to get a second glass of wine or water.

The biggest issue I had was with fly bites. The first week we were there it was windy day and night and we had a few bites despite wearing repellant every day. On our second week the wind died down and we were literally eaten alive. I was getting 3 or 4 new bites each day and the old bites would not heal. It came to the point I did not want to go out after dark as I could not handle getting any new bites. There were not Mosquitoes but very small flies that had a huge bite and did not seem to know that DEET was not the main course for their dinner..

This resort and its two sisters resorts are surrounded by a huge swamp that is the perfect breeding ground for these pesky bugs. Their were alot of people complaining about this on our trip home.

For this reason I would not return to this resort as the bites were very painful - enough that I could not sleep at night. The bites on my arms became infected and I am now taking antibiotics 4 a day for 10 days to clear this up.

They really need to deal with this issue if they want people to return.
