“Spacious, calm, but just short of perfect”

We enjoyed our stay here very much. We had a one bedroom oceanview, which was extremely spacious for a couple. (You could squeeze a larger family in this size unit, but you would need a rollaway bed in the living room because the sofa was not a pull-out.) The kitchen was very well stocked with cooking implements and appliances. There was a TV with cable, VCR, and DVD player. There were even books and boardgames. The oceanview units were located across a small courtyard to the beach, and we really did have a nice view of the ocean from our living room and patio area. There was also a charcoal grill out on the patio, which we used several nights.

Maid service came every day except Sunday, but sometimes at 5pm and other days at 10:30am, which was a bit inconvenient. The manager was friendly and attentive to our requests but was not terribly knowledgeable about some of the sites on the island.

The beach was gorgeous. It is much less crowded than the Westin and the Ritz Carlton beaches on either side. Our only slight complaint with the beach was the shortage of umbrellas. There were 6 umbrellas for the whole beach, and chairs under the umbrellas were claimed with someone's towel before 8AM each morning. There were also trees that provided imperfect shade, but it was still annoying that the property advertised beach umbrellas on their website and failed to deliver.

Within walking distance we had a liquor store and barebones mini-mart across the street, as well as a diner called Eats. It was about a 10 minute walk down the road to a large supermarket. There was a public bus that would take you up and down 7 mile beach for CI$2. However, if you are traveling with children or anyone less than spry, be forewarned that the street is very heavily trafficked with absolutely no crosswalks of any kind. Even if you are taking the bus, you will have to cross this street. You might want to rent a car.

We should note that both of our complaints (the shortage of umbrellas and crosswalks) were more symptoms of the island in general than this property. We walked along most of 7 mile beach and checked out lots of other condo properties, and they all seemed to be very short on umbrellas. If you really wanted a guaranteed umbrella, you could get one at the public beach across from the Marriott Courtyard for something like $20.

Overall, we would rate this property somewhere between a 4 and a 5.

I loved staying here. I went in October, and the weather was gorgeous. I would agree with all the other reviews; our apartment was quiet and well-equipped, and literally a few steps from the beach, across a small lawn. I rolled out of bed in the morning & went onto the beach to sleep in the sun! I'm not a swimmer, but I could wade out & see shoals of mulit-coloured fish. Wonderful. It felt very liberating, too, to be able to run along the beach or do yoga - lots of Americans around so no-one stared, as they would in Europe. It is easy to go up to the end of the beach & find some peace & quiet. We hired a moped & visited Hell, and the turtle farm, and took picnics to go birdwatching. It's a lovely island, didn't see to be any poverty. The capital gets very busy when the cruise ships are in. The only problem with Grand Cayman is that it is very expensive - even the fish has to be bought in, apparently, so costs a fortune, so we did cook quite a lot for ourselves.

“Great for a family beach vacation”

Villas of the Galleon

We have just returned from a week at the Villas of the Galleon. It was one of the most enjoyable vacations we have ever had. There were 9 of us (6 adults and 3 children -- aged 3 and under) in a 3 bedroom/3 bathroom oceanfront unit. We also requested a ground floor level room so we could just walk out to the beach and because we were with children. It was perfect. Our condo was right on the beach - we've been to Grand Cayman before and this is definitely the nicest part of Seven Mile Beach (and great for kids)

The unit was spacious and clean with a well-equipped kitchen, especially important when traveling with small children. We also requested 2 cribs, a roll-away and 2 high chairs ahead of time and they were all in the unit when we arrived. The closets were good-sized and there were plenty of bath and beach towels. The daily maid service was great. They took care of making the beds, sweeping up the sand off the floors, and replenishing the towels every day except Sunday.

We ventured out a little bit (shopped in Georgetown, ate out at Breezes, Deckers and the Cracked Conch and spent a day at Rum Point) but spent most of the time just hanging out at the beach with the kids. The liquor store was right across the street and the grocery store was a 5-8 minute walk from the VOG. We were able to have most of our meals in the condo.

We initially decided not to rent a car and just take cabs if we needed to go out - but I would recommend renting a car, cabs are expensive and car rentals are very affordable.

We can't wait to go back to VOG!!!!

“Great beach vacation”

If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing stay on one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, this is the place. VoG is located on a great section of 7 Mile Beach situated between the Ritz & Westin. The beach was never crowded during the entire week. The property and rooms were very clean, and the Lisa the property manager was extremely friendly and helpful. We rented a 2-bedroom villa (2 bath, kitchen, living room, dining room, patio) in April 2007 for 3 adults and 2 children. Even though we had a garden view room, we could see the beach and ocean.

There is a liquor store right across the street and a grocery store 2 blocks away. Even though many restaurants are within walking distance (some right across the street), I'd recommend renting a car. We drove to the Turtle Farm, Hell, Georgetown, Cemetary Beach & Smith's Cove (both had incredible snorkling). We also went on a snorkle trip (recommended by Lisa) to Stingray City, the Barrier Reef and the Coral Gardens (must do !!!).

For the price, convenience, and location, this is a great choice to spend a week along the clear, blue, calm, warm waters of the Caribbean.

“Relaxing, Best location on 7 Mile Beach”

Villas of the Galleon

Villas of the Galleon was one of the best places I have ever stayed in the Caribbean. Nestled betweem the Ritz and the Westin, it is by far on the best strip of 7 mile beach. The rooms are large, airy, completely renovated since the hurricane, well stocked with anything you will ever need in the kitchen and extremely well taken care of by the maid service.

We did a lot of research before making the decision to stay here and I would tell others not to bother with all the research and just book this place. Lisa who runs the office is very nice and if you have questions before you leave, call her and she will answer them.

We were five people in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom unit. 2 couples and one 10-month old infant. We had a great crib in the room and a high chair and it was such a relaxed way to travel with a baby.

There are many restaurants within walking distance to this hotel and the supermarket is very close as well. This makes a huge difference as taxis are very very expensive on the island. Car Rental places are also available very close by so if you want to rent a car for the day to explore the island it is much cheaper than taking cabs everywhere. We had a lot of fun driving and had a great lunch at The Lighthouse.

We loved Decker's restaurant and you can walk there from Villas of the Galleon.

We dove with Wall to Wall Diving and they were so great and helpful, especially for the one nervous diver in the group.

Grand Cayman was an absolutely fantastic holiday and our setup at Villas of the Galleon was the reason why. Don't hesitate before booking this place.
