My husband is Mexican, and I am a low-maintenance kind of girl, so I suppose our standards and what we are looking for when we go on vacation may be different than some.
With that said, we really loved the Boca Chica. We stayed in a corner
suite, which looked like most of the other rooms, but had a king-sized bed (which was comfortable, not luxurious) and a private balcony that wrapped around the room. We could watch the sun rise over the hills across the bay in the morning, and watch the sky changed as the sun set each night. We also had a view of the beach and La Isla de Roqueta.
Besides the nice room, the staff was very pleasant, if not particularly energetic. And, unlike the last reviewer, we found both Playa Caletilla and Caleta (just steps away) very charming and clean. We loved walking by the fisherman each morning, who sold a wicked ultra-fresh ceviche around lunch and the general Mexican aura of the beach. I don't particularly want to see a lot of Americans when on vacation, so it was nice to be in a more local (albeit also touristy) scene.
A couple of days we camped out for $3 under an umbrella on the beach, taking turns reading and swimming, sipping micheladas, coronas and pina coladas (served by the owners of the restaurants toward the back of the beach).
Like many said, the hotel restaurant is excellent, not only the included breakfast but also the Marina Bay lunch and dinner spot under the high palapa roof. Try to get the older, paunchier waiter, he's really fun and will give the ladies a fresh flower.
Overall, the Boca Chica's ambience and location charmed us, and we'll
be back.
