“A little worn, but fun”

InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort

Mar 23, 2008

Stayed here as a result of needing to burn Priority Club points. Found the hotel to be a bit tired. Very helpful staff however. If you're looking for more than a hotel room, might want to look elsewhere. The beach was fantastic. Met a few great folks. Hotel prices should be expected to be high, but this got a little crazy. The New Years Eve Party was about $250 per person. Breakfast buffet was brutal. Food was bad, $50 for the two of us. We found a cute place in town that got our daily breakfast business. Bus station is directly across the street. Zero need for cab rides. If you want a patio, make sure you request a ground floor room. Sure limits the ocean view though.
All in all - we had a blast. Off to the next stop...

“PRESIDENTE : LEAVE ME ALONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort

My wife and I booked the Presidente for 8 night stay through priceline. After reading the reviews on trip advisor , other some travelers had to pay resort fees. I e-mailed the hotelat least 10 times to see if I would be be responsible for any resort fees. They did not resond back. On arrival to the hotel I was told the fees were 21 $ us to use the business center (to old computers with a slow internet connection], and a gym with old fitness equipment. They demanded a credit card to cover these fees.
We finally ageed to the fees having no other choice.
We went up to our room, which was ok, but the materes was very hard and the sheets were very rough.
The next mourning we went to breakfast and then for a swim.On the way to breakfast we were chased by staff at the hotel trying to sell time at their hotel..... not on your life. My wife is polite so she was stuck in the hallway for 15 min while I waited on hte stairway hoping for breakfast.
During our stay we were constantly harrased buy the time-share people. I fount this very unprofessional ,after having told them to stop bothering us several times.
One night we arrived back at the hotel at 2am , we walked down to the beach for a romantic stroll. We then came back and sat on the chairs for a while. When we walked back toward the hotel we saw a creepy hotel staff security guard watching us from behind a palm tree.
We will not be booking at this hotel again.
My wife was jabbing me the hotel stay for not re-booking At Aventura spa Palace in Riveara maya.

“A lovely vacation”

InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort

Just got back from the IC last weekend. We had a wonderful time and actually discovered it was the same hotel we stayed at on our High School Senior trip 11 years ago. That was back before the hotel was bought by Intercontinental—it is much nicer and more updated now. We are recently engaged and when the staff found this out they upgraded us to a suite on the club level. It was an amazing room, very large, clean with a beautiful terrace overlooking the property and water. Beds were soooo comfortable and we just loved the service. Breakfast every morning on our floor and snacks every night. Very cool to have free fresh squeezed juices and coffee in the morning. All the staff were wonderful, from the housekeepers to the beach servers. Everyone was so accommodating.

The property itself is wonderful. Best beach by far anywhere in Cancun. We visited a few all inclusive hotels while we were there just to compare and they didn't. The property is large enough to get away from the other guests and children. There were a lot of family's and kids but that didn't bother us too much. I noticed that most of the families were Mexican as opposed to American and the children were much better behaved than I've seen at some American resorts so it really didn't bother us. There is also a nice adults only pool as well, though we stayed in the main pool area most of the time. We were so glad that we stayed here as opposed to one of the all-inclusives we were considering because the pools were actually nice and relaxing. No bumping music or "games" by the pool spring break-style.

We did not get hounded by "time share" people at all but met a couple guests who had. Maybe we looked too young or something but it was a non-issue for us. Now, to my only complaint. The food was sub par at best. Restaraunts at the hotel were below average. I don't know how you can mess up guacamole but the guac at the IC is not good and its comes with everything which was disappointing. I wouldn't try anything to fancy and just stick with the basics. The quesadillas and fajitas were OK. And the breakfast at Frutas y Flores (the hotel restaurant) was good but pricey. But dinner at the beachside restaurant was bad enough that we ate out every other night. Also my fiance ate a hamburger on the beach for lunch one day, and she had Montezuma's revenge by that evening. Whether it was from the burger or not, we'll never know, but with the quality of the food I wouldn't be surprised. Overall the property/service was fantastic. This would honestly but a fabulous hotel if not for the food. We're hoping they do something to fix that and we'll be on the next flight back!

“Great Beach, Great Amenities”

InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort

My wife and I stayed at the Presidente Intercontinental for three days. Overall, the hotel was rather nice, with fine common areas and excellent outdoor amenities. We were greeted by the concierge upon our arrival and were handled quickly and professionally. The rooms are of average size, and were quite clean. There are no balconies in at least a part of the hotel, which we happened to be staying in. However, we spent most of our time outdoors so it didnt bother us at all. The shower was nice, good water pressure and various toiletries.

The pool and the beach areas at this hotel are phenomenal. Really, you cant beat the beach area, which has numerous palapas and beach chairs for use. The water is shallow enough to wade in, and the sand is fine and plenty. There really are no rocky areas on this beach whatsoever, which is nice compared to properties located nearby, which are very uneven.

The bartenders provided adequate service, I wouldnt say they were overly friendly but they made delicious drinks.

Yes, the food and drinks are expensive at the Presidente. Everyone should know this before heading to the hotel, as it is well established. We had no problems bringing some snacks and beers from the grocery store across the street into the hotel (although we didnt advertise it), which helped to defray some of the high costs of the hotel.

There was a wedding at the hotel on Saturday night, which was beautiful to observe (it was on the beachfront) and we were undisturbed by the participants celebration afterward.

The timeshare representatives were polite, and easily avoided.

Overall, for the reasonable price we obtained this hotel on priceline at, combined with a really beautiful pool and beach, this is a good value for Cancun.

“Not up to IC standards....”

InterContinental Presidente Cancun Resort

I spent one night at the IC Presidente in Cancun and I was very disappointed in the property itself and the service provided. I have stayed at IC hotels all over the world and this location just isn't in the same class as the others.

The overall property is in desperate need of renovation, and the lower lobby is full of desks occupied by people trying to sell you something (time shares, day trips, Orbitz, rental cars, etc.). I've never seen anything like it.....and just not what you expect at an Intercontinental Hotel.

Since I'm an 'Ambassador' Priority Club member with IC, the hotel 'upgraded' me to an ocean view room which had a great view of the ocean. It was clean, with concrete/tile floors (so you hear EVERYTHING), a small rattan table and chairs, and the hardest mattress I have ever slept on. The decor of the room and hotel were like something from Miami in the late 1980s (remember the Golden Girls?) lots of white stucco, floral prints on the walls, white linens, etc.

The hotel had booked a wedding (or some type of ceremony) and dining reception on the beach for the weekend I was there. Yet the hotel made no reference to this event, or apologize for any inconvenience it may cause to the other hotel guests.

The pool area was nice, and there is a small gym that was great (treadmills, stair masters, dumb bells, etc.). The overall grounds of the hotel were well maintained and clean. And the beach, water and sand were absolutely beautiful!!!

One thing that stuck out to me when comparing this hotel to other IC properties was that there seemed to be a lot of families with small children. Maybe that has more to do with Cancun than the hotel, but generally IC caters to business travelers.

Overall I felt this hotel just didn't live up to what I have come to expect at an IC property and I found the hotel staff to not be very helpful and in some cases rude.
