I have been to several all inclusive hotels, and this one was the best. The food was above average, staff is very friendly and helpful, and the rooms are very clean. I would highly suggest an ocean view. I would definitely return!
Just got back today and my family enjoyed this resort. very much. This was our first experience with an all-inclusive and I must say we loved it. The resort is beautiful as is the beach. Its definitely on the small side but it was perfect since we were with our 2 kids and it was very easy to find them at all times.
The entertainment staff was good but we tended to stay at the volleyball pool because it was quieter. The nightly shows were very good especially Mexican Night and the Magic Show on Friday night. They also had a puppet show by the pool one day that my 5 yr old just loved. My kids also used the KIDS CLUB which gave us some quiet time by the pool.
The food was just alright. By the 5th day my husband and I agreed that we were getting sick of it. Breakfast was always enjoyable and I esp. loved the omelette station. Too many choices were available for breakfast. Lunch at the Rosmarinus was not very good and the pool snack bar was usually greasy food which I tend to avoid. I did however love the Tortilla chips and guacamole and pico de gallo.
Dinner was hit or miss. The upscale Marco Polo was very good. They had the best appetizers to try at their center island and you could go up as often as you would like. The food on the menu although limited was good. We ate here 3 times but you need to be in line early before 9 am to make reservations if you are pcky about the time you eat. One day I waited 25 min. to get a 7:30 reservation.
The other choices were the Rosmarinus and the buffet at the ballroom which were not good. Don't get me wrong you will not go hungry here.
There was a deli which we did not try i'm sorry to say but I saw the sandwiches one day on the elevator (someone was bringing them to their room to enjoy) and they did look yummy.
I know room service is available and we did not try that also so cannot comment on that. Desserts were good at all the places we tried.
Drinks were sl. watered down but I didn't mind because I'm not much of a drinker and I had children to keep an eye on.
Be sure to try the " tea time" from 4-6 in the lobby. A beautifully dressed senhorita will make you tea or coffee with your choice of spirits in it. She passed the liquor over a flame to warm it up before placing it in the coffee. She was so good at what she did and they also offer pastry at this time.
I would like to comment on how excellent the service was. This group of workers just amazed me. They put in what seemed to be an unjust amount of hours and always had a smile on their faces. Many could not speak English well so at times communicating was tricky. We always tipped and they definitely never seemed to expect it and always were very gracious about receiving tips and praise.
The resort goes out of their way to decorate the ballroom and restaurants every night. There is always a different theme and the decor reflects that.
Our room was very nice. The beds were hard but the view overlooking the pools and beach made up for it. They were always cleaned immaculately and the maid always did cute things with towels or the bed spreads. At night while out to dinner they always came in to pick up the wet towels and leave new ones. They also straightenout out the shower area which was very nice.
Did not experience any problems with water pressure/ odor/ or noise. We were at the end of the hall so that could be why noise was never an issue.
I would definitely go back to this resort for its beauty and terrific staff.

Business serviceThe five of us Stayed at the GR Solaris between April 15 & 23rd-2008. Two adults-three children.-twelve and fourteen year old girls and one male child, age ten
The hotel was clean but noisy. When the air conditioning system kicks on and off it is loud. Of course this is only a concern during the evening. The tiled hallways are noisy and voices can be heard from other rooms.
We traveled with three children and asked for a connecting room. Here is where the joke started. The interior doors had to be left open after we asked they be unlocked. Yes open, because the dead bolt had to be left extended in order from preventing the doors from closing. Their was no way of locking the door from inside the "master bedroom" for the purposes of having "privacy" when needed. The hotel's solution.....Call the desk 24 x7 and ask for the door to be unlocked and locked when needed. Who is watching the clock anyway? The average man may have been intimidated by this solution but not me...(LOL)
By 1pm the water in the main/upper pool was disgusting. Between the suntan oil floating on the surface of the water and food floating on the surface and lying on the floor we thought we were in a soup bowl. The hotel should definitely prohibit persons from eating in the pool. As for the suntan lotion I have no recomendation. The hotel staff may also consider separating the kiddie pool from the main pool as I can only imagine what else is in the pool. Yes the childens pool and the main pool are one in the same. Although the children may not be the only ones at fault, as adults would stay at the swim-up bar for hours. One can only assume the "adult bar flys" have abnormal bladders.
As for the entertainment team....All comments suggested sex. I am not a prude but this was sold as a family resort, hence our three children and dozens more were present. From one male entertainer simulating a striptease down to his underwear with the other male entertainer suggesting to the other, "show us your package". I am sure I wasn't the only person questioned from a child asking what a "package" was. Now I know why persons wear underwear underneath their bathing suits.
Other comments made from the entertainment team. During a competition show they requested "dirty poses", "sexy poses" and "naughty poses". I am sure I wasn't the only person questioned from a child what the differences are.
As for the remainder of the stay, all was well. The hotel barring the pool was spotless.
The food was ok. You do need to stand in line at 9am to make a reservation for the Marco Polo rest. This Rest. is sold as the high end rest and requires pants and shoes. No sandals or shorts. We didn't go because we didn't want to wait in line.
In order to have a chair at the pool you need to place a towel on a chair at or about 7am.
Would we return?....For the money it was a good value. But we may wait for the children to grow older or we will go when the children are eslewhere.

Business serviceThis is one of many family trips we have made to Mexico and our third time at a Solaris Hotel. The other 2 were at the Royal Solaris, which is a 10 minute walk down the beach (south). There were 9 of us including 3 children. Our week was very enjoyable, expecially since we could use all of the ammenities of the Royal, which include marina activities on the lagoon and a super new kids club. The Grand Solaris was wonderful. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. We ate at all of the restaurants and enjoyed the food. There are so many choices. The lobster dinner at the fancy restaurant was wonderful. Most mornings we sat on the patio and enjoyed the eggs, fruit and breads. My favorite each moring was the soup. First time I've had soup for breakfast. Lunch was usually at the pool snack bar. Great cheeseburgers, nachos, corn poppers and blended drinks. The children wanted to walk to the Royal each day for the new kids pool with slides and many other daily activities. If you enjoy sailing, there is a marina across the street. We all agreed that this hotel is a great destination for a week in Cancun. To end my report....if you haven't seen the beach and ocean from the GR Solaris, you are in for a treat!

ServiceThis was my first trip to Cancun, and my first all-inclusive experience. Myself and two of my girlfriends (all in our mid 20's) spent three days at the GR Solaris in April. The hotel is beautiful and it's in a great location. Right on the beach, two nice pools, a swim-up bar. An important note: in order to get a beach chair by one of the pools, you have to put a towel out by about 7:30am. This is what we did the first day there, but the second and third day we decided to spend the day at the beach. This was great! You can get to the beach at whatever time of day you want to and there is always room. The lifeguards put up big beach umbrellas, you're right on the ocean, it's a one minute walk up the stairs to get cocktails and food (also a waitress comes around to take drink orders.) The beach is great! The beach is also more independent then the pool areas. In other words, at the pool areas there is always music playing and the entertainment staff are constantly doing activities where they try to include the guests (i.e. water aerobics, water volleyball etc...). At the beach, you do your own thing.
What I didn't like about the resort was the food: You have about six different restaurants to choose from and the food was terrible at all the restaurants. Yuck! Don't go for the food.
There were a lot of families. So if you are single and in your 20's, don't expect a party atmosphere. I had no problem with all the kids, but just know that there's not a huge night scene. You can do night excursions to different clubs in the area, but it costs extra and if you've been drinking most of the day, you're probably going to be too tired. However, as three "taken ladies" we didn't mind the lack of night activities because we were getting away to see each other, catch up, and relax on the beach. And this is exactly what we did.
Finally, if you're just planning on staying at the hotel, three days is plenty of time. Plenty! Three days of laying on the beach, drinking and spending time with my girlfriends was perfect. I think if I had spent much more time there, I would have started to get bored.
Overall, great experience: clean, big room with private balcony, facing the ocean. Gorgeous! But don't go for the food. It was awful!!!
