Oh my Gosh - what a place - stayed there 5/5-5/12 and what a week it was. I was a little skeptical after reading reviews complaining about the overrbooking and the towel game but let me reassure all those getting ready to go. Don't worry - everything is fine. We booked an oceanfront suite and picked our room 48 hours before going. We, as well as the couple we were traveling with, had absolutely no problem with overbooking - our rooms were ready when we got there and we even upgraded to a swim up suite for the last 3 days of our stay. They were working on the beach furiously extending the jetties(sp?) and adding sand. They also took away several of the large sand bags that were there. The beach size is just fine. They have also corrected the towel game problem - they no longer lay out the towels. You have to request them at the hut and each room gets 2 which they keep track of. There is absolutely no problem getting chairs unless you're one to stay in bed til noon each day. Even then if you need a chair just see Cesar or Raphael. They are amazing and will see to your every need. Tell them Mr.Tim and Mr. Tony sent you. Please tip them - they work really hard to make everyone happy. The restaurants are all very good. Every meal was terrific. I could go on and on but I'd be repeating what everyone else has already written. This place has my business and I would not consider going to any other place in Cancun in the future.

We stayed at the royal cancun for 2 weeks from 6-20 April 2008, and what an amazing place! before we travelled, we read alot of bad reviews about people not getting there room choice and being put in another hotel etc.., So we booked our room online 48hrs before we arrived staying in an royal oceanfront room 406, and when we arrived were taken straight to follr 4, for our royal check in with a glass of champagne, then given our room as chosen 406. When we arrived in rom it was all set out romantic as it was our anniversary, we had a bottle of champagne and a cake, (very nice touch). As we did'nt arrive til late that night we just had room service, it was fantastic. Over the next few days we tried all the different resturants, and they were all fab, our favourite was the asiania, amazing, also pelicanos was lovely as it was right on the beach and by the pool, great food and lovely views. All the staff were great, always happy to help you out. Our favourites were Raul the pool bar waiter, amazing, always bring our drinks even wehn we did'nt ask, he made sure we always had a drink to hand. We tipped him everyday he served as his service was exceptional! also nacho in the 24hr lounge, he was always happy to help and smiling. All in all we had such a fantastic time we stayed 2 weeks and did'nt get bored once, infact we did'nt want to come home, loved the hotel, loved the staff, loved the cocktails, especially electric lemonade( try it). We loved it so much we have booked to go back, but were going to try their sister hotel in playa del carmen, as its exactly the same hotel and service which we loved so much. We read alot of bad reviews but these must be from people who wont be pleased by anyone. Ignore the bad reviews, because there is nothing bad at all about this hotel, it is the most amazing hotel we have ever stayed at, and we have been to many around the world! So go, enjoy and relax, we loved it and so will you.

Just wanted to let everyone know that The Royal in Cancun overbooks its rooms so be prepared to not have a room when you arrive EVEN IF YOU CHECK IN ONLINE BEFORE YOU ARRIVE. Then, when you try to get everything cleared up, the staff will stop communicating with you and pretend that they do not understand.

When I finally got hold of the actual agent that booked my rooms, she gave me one reason, but later on the staff told me that what my agent told me was NOT true and that the hotel typically overbooks its rooms.

To add insult to injury, the hotel still hasn't refunded the money that they owe me for not having one of my rooms available.

BEWARE OF THE ROYAL IN CANCUN.
