“Worst Hotel I have stayed in!”

Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites

My husband I and I stayed at this hotel last week. I travel a lot with work and I have never had such I terrible hotel. It was an apartment building built in the 70's and you can tell. I do not think that anything has been done to the building since then. I felt like my room was grama's apartment. The beds were gross. The decor was terrible. There was PURPLE tub and toilet!

To make matters even worse there were bulk soap and shampoo dispensers that stay from guest to guest. It really did not seem very clean, nor appealing to me. There was also a very old, dirty fridge that ran very loudly. To sum up the room it was dark and depressing and did not feel clean at all!

The hallway looks like something from a dorm room and the pool was in the basement and very creepy.

We talked to the girl at the desk, and were told that it was an older hotel and they needed to do renovations. The view was nice, but what good is a nice view if the bed and bathroom gross you out?

“The best reason to stay here is a great view from the top floors”

Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites

We had a great weekend stay here when we booked on the spur of the moment in June 2007 for the jazz festival in Vancouver. The best part of the stay was the outstanding views from the room, which had a windy little balcony off the large sliding full length glass windows. I would definitely request a room high up, facing west. It was convenient to walking to Stanley Park, as well. I have attached photos to show that the view is, indeed, a highlight. Good for a couple; not so great for families with kids.

On the downside, the hotel had a rather cold feel architecturally.. it just felt cavernous and designed to manage large numbers of people, rather than to provide a comfortable stay. The staff at the desk seemed extremely busy, but remained courteous. We did not try the hotel food. I probably would not stay there again, unless it was for another overnight in a similar room...quite expensive for the quality of hotel, I believe. One is essentially paying for location; and, hopefully, a view.

“Nice Hotel in Excellent Location”

We have stayed here several times. The hotel is in a great location, very close to the beach and right on Denman Street with many dining and drink choices in the area. You can walk up the side street to view
the West End neighborhood as well. The hotel rooms are average and somewhat in need of a re-decoration but they are large and most have spectacular views of the skyline and/or mountains. There is a full scale gym next door with a free pass included and a couple of restaruants on site. Definitely not a five star hotel but one I would highly recommend for the location and views.

“Not what was expected”

Coast Plaza Hotel & Suites

The Coast Plaza Hotel is a good hotel for a short break in Vancouver, i would not reccomend to stay here for long periods of time. The exterior of the hotel looks a bit shabby but the hotel is at least making an effort in improving this. The hotel is located well in the downtown district. There are many small but pleasant resturants blending in with the cosmopoliton downtown area. Down the road close to Stanley Park, the harbour area is filled with expensive but quality resturants and some larger chain hotels.

The hotel unfortuantly was not up to what i thought i had booked. The rooms were dated and i was on the 4th floor of the block. This ment i overlooked a poorly maintained roof which looked as if it had not been cleaned since the hotel was opened. Also the hotel did not have the room avalible which i had booked, so two uncomfortable 1930's hospital looking beds replaced what i had booked!

The staff still seemed to manage a difficult situation well. The hotel resturant was clean and the food was nice.

Unfortuantly i would not be returning to the Coast but this is only due to my dark and dingy 4th floor room. Im sure that on higher floors things may be different.
