My husband and I stayed at this comfortable hotel for two nights in early October 2007 before boarding the ship Maasdam for the Canada New England cruise. The cab fare to the pier was $7.00; while it's within walking distance, one wouldn't want to walk there with luggage.
It is located close to the pier, Notre Dame Basillica (a must see), many shops, art galleries and restaurants. While the subway is also nearby, there are a LOT of stairs, going up and down, before you get there. We are a senior couple and had some difficulty with that. The cost of a one way fare is $2.75; we took the train to the Botanical gardens but took a cab back; cost of cab
was $16.00; the gardens are located right beside the Biodome. we enjoyed the gardens but they are probably best seen in spring or summer or earlier in the fall.
The fare from the airport by cab was $35.00; we encountered a very rude cabbie but that was the only unpleasant part of our stay.
The staff at the hotel were cheerful, helpful and very pleasant. The complimentary breakfast buffet included cold and hot cereals, juices, breads, muffins, waffles, a nice cheese and asparagus egg dish, make your own waffles, fruit and yogurt; something for everyone.
There are many restaurants very close by; we had one dinner at the Modavie and the early bird special was $16.00.
We found the hotel "homey" and convenient. The air conditioning was noisy but I have yet to find one that isn't. As others pointed out, there is no view.
We didn't use the pool or any other hotel facilities; there is an ironing board with iron in the room and a hair dryer. Also a complimentary daily paper.
I would recommend this hotel.
