As other reviewers has said, this is a lovely hotel. It is probably more suitable to couples rather than singles or families.
The owners clearly take great pride in their hotel. - and rightly so! The gardens are beautifully maintained and inside the main hall and downstairs lounge area traditional-style furniture is featured. This is also where the continental breakfast is served each mornng.
Our room - a batchelor garden view room - was well appointed with a kitchette and a good sized balcony overlooking the gardens. The bathroom featured a walk-in shower so presumably would be suitable for a disabled person.
There is a free underground car park for guests although I guess that the crime rate is very low in this area.
What really makes this hotel special are the personal touches - the friendliness of the reception staff, the cookies and hot chocolate in the evening, even a teddy bear on the bed.
Sidney itself is a small and quaint town - population around 11,000. The town centre, which featues several restaurants as well as a number of bookshops - more per head of population than anywhere else in Canada apparently - is about a 25 minute walk away.
The BC Ferries terminal at Swartz Bay is a five minute drive away (tip - it is worth booking this in advance as we almost did not make our ferry despite being there two hours beforehand) with Victoria about 12 miles/20k away. This can be reached by the main highway or by the more scenic coastal route.
