“Ghastly place”

I needed to stay in Bristol for one night on business but found that everywhere I usually stay was fully booked and only the +£110 per night places had any rooms left. So chose this place as the photos on the website didn't look too bad.

My room is tiny and shabby. Thin plasterboard walls mean that I can hear the guy next door snore!

The grubby sink is completely blocked so am sitting here looking at filthy water and other bits just sitting there. Several dubious looking stains feature on the aging eiderdown :-/

The room and the whole rest of the property smell old and musty - more like a museum than a hotel. Nice entrance canopy and foyer though - almost posh looking until you venture further...

On the other hand the staff were amazingly friendly and polite.

Would never stay here again. If I had to stay in Bristol for more than one night I would definitely have checked into one of the £110 places in the city rather than stay here - or just sleep in the car!

“Most appalling hotel I have ever stayed in”

The Washington Hotel

This is the most appalling hotel I have ever encountered and I would not recommend it to anyone. I only chose it because it looked to be value for money - don't make the same mistake as me.

The room I was given was extremely small and was shabby and dirty. One evening I returned to find that the door had been left wide open all day by the cleaners. Another evening, I returned to find that the decorators had been in and painted the room, despite the fact that I was still staying in the room.

The hotel staff were, on the whole, very apologetic and I can only sympathise with them having to work in such a place. However, I found the hotel management to be very difficult and, despite having written to them on several occasions, have found myself getting absolutely nowhere with them.

I should add that this is the first time I have ever complained about a hotel, so please don't think I make a habit of going on websites like this and making a fuss.

well i was staying here from 23rd april 2007 for 2 weeks as I was training for my new job.
I read all the reviews but to be honest I couldnt fault the hotel, it smelled a bit but its a really old hotel and Ive stayed in worse places.
the 24 hour staff were amazing and my friend also enjoyed his stay.
on my 2nd week i was in a different room it was down stairs at the front. I wasnt happy with that room it was really noisy from the drunks in the street but that wasnt this hotels fault!!!

I WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN

“Would not stay here again”

The Washington Hotel

The Washington needs to clean up its act!

The hallways smelled moldy and old, probably because of the carpet. I was in the basement, where the smell was perhaps worse. I made the mistake of opening my curtains only to look out onto a trash strewn little area at the bottom of the street! Yuck! The room itself was ok. The carpet was moldy in places and the bathroom had moldy spots too. Also-the shower curtain! Now even if its too much money or work to fix mold in the bathroom at least make sure the cheap plastic curtain is mold free!

The breakfast they served was very good and they had very nice people working there. That made up somewhat for the dingy room.

“Not Great”

The Washington Hotel

If this hotel is 2 star they must be easy come by.
This Hotel was more like a B&B and needs renovations, hotel is clean enough but showers are tebbile not great value for money but if like me your only staying for two nights it will do. Getting to rooms is a bit of a hike and breakfast it pretty small. Staff are however nice and friendly but wouldnt stay there again.
Check out The Rack bar just left of this"hotel"(Term used lightly) good food and good atmosphere.
