“A great value 2 Star Hotel”

Wheatlands Lodge Hotel

We stayed at the Hotel over a weekend as we were attending a wedding in York.

Let me start by saying that this Hotel will never be a 4 Star establishment.

But what it is, is clean, friendly and well located for York centre.

At £70 per night for a good size double room it is outstanding value.

We enjoyed the stay and would recommend it to anyone.

A cracking 2 Star!

Stayed at the Wheatlands Lodge Hotel in York for one night recently. Antiquated building, poor parking, few modern facilities and a bar straight out of the fifties. No lift, three flights of creaking stairs. However, breakfast was nice & staff were friendly & competent.

I suppose for various reasons, some guests may love this type of accommodation, it just wasn't what we were after.

Be aware that although it offers reasonable value for money, the Wheatlands is very much a dated establishment and lacks a lot of what the newer budget chains have to offer.

Just returned from a three day break staying at this Hotel. The Hotel is very clean and well kept, the staff are very friendly and only too willing to be of assistance.Bar prices are reasonable on a par with the pubs in the area.We stayed on the half board tarrif which is good value for money considering you get a realy good breakfast and a four course evening meal. The location of the Hotel is ideal for the city center as it is only a ten minute walk. One minor complaint last orders for breakfast is at 9 am which I think is a little early when I am on Holiday.Other than that this hotel is great value for money.A little gem

We booked this Hotel for 15th December 2006 for 2 nights, having read all the other reviews we went with the idea of having a lovely time there. When we arrived we had a lovely warm welcome from the Reception Staff who told us what time dinner was served and also breakfast. We went to our room which was on the 2nd floor, it was nice and comfortable, very clean and lots storage space.

We went downstairs for dinner, we could sit where ever we wanted, the meal was really good we had a choice of juice or pear and cottage cheese salad, soup a choice of 2 main meals and a choice of 5 desserts and we had tea or coffee afterwards. Breakfast was also good and left us wondering what there was for dinner Saturday night, we had a lovely roast beef dinner and fresh veg.

There was a nice bar where you could go for a drink before or after meal and it was very reasonable.

Overall we had a wonderful 2 night stay and cannot wait to go back there sometime next year.

My husband and I have just returned from five days, 4 nights at the Wheatlands Lodge Hotel, York and we were very pleased with the hotel overall. Our room was large, facing the main street but no noise heard at all execept from passing traffic. The meals were excellent with a choice of fruit juice or small salad, soup and the choice of two main meals and at least five desserts, with a fast and friendly service from the staff . Breakfasts were equally as good and filling.

The hotel was very clean and welcoming and not too far from the centre of York approximately 10-15 minutes walk. Whilst there we visited the Railway Museum, the Castle Museum, the Minster - all excellent places to go but we were disappointed with the Jorvik Centre which cost 7.50 each and lasted about 20 minutes from beginning to end.

Overall a great holiday and plenty to see and do in York.
