The history alone would make a stay in this hotel worthwhile. But the architecture and beauty of the building was just an added bonus. I'm a bit of a WW2 buff, so it was eerie to stand on my balcony and look at Hitler's driveway and see the same breathtaking views that I've seen in so many historical photos.
The owner and staff were friendly and helpful. I needed to check in after their normal check-in hours and they did accommodate me. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. I enjoyed walking around the area and seeing so much WW2 history. It's quite peaceful and beautiful.
I was traveling through Germany by train and my stay at this hotel would have been easier with a rental car. I had about a 15 minute walk from the bus stop at the Documentation Center with my luggage (luckily I was traveling backpack style). Also, there are really no restaurants within walking distance for dinner, so I ate ate some apples that were in my room along with a protein bar.
I only spent two days in the area, but I would definitely go back for longer and stay at the zum Turken and hike the Obersalzberg area and explore more of Berchtesgaden in the valley floor. This time, however, I would rent a car!
