“perfectly acceptable”

Golden Leaf Hotel & Residence Frankfurt

Mar 15, 2008

perfectley acceptable 3 star accomadation, in a good and safe part of town, quite a trendy, arty area, 2 mins from tram stop straight to the central train station, 5 mins walk to underground with trains direct to main airport, eating and drinking places a few mins from hotel, no bar in hotel but there is an italian restaureant in house very expensive, did'nt eat there, 24 hour checkin, pleasant staff, good housekeeping, spotless if not slightley wornout rooms must be due for a refit soon as it was built 1995,beds not particulally comfotable as the one
pillow is non existant so at chechin ask for an extra 2 pillows each and you will be at least slightley raised up!!! take ear plugs if you intend to sleep with the windows open as the train tracks are a few hundred metres away but not too busy and keep the door that seperates the rest of the appartment from the kitchenette and bathroom door shut , otherwise a howling not dissimiler to a kettle on the boil will keep you awake all night, quite scary!!! probabley would not return but we tend to like to stay in different accomadation each time we visit frankfurt on buisness as it feels more like a break that way unless it is acceptional, fine for a few nights stay

“Nice hotel in a decent neighborhood”

Golden Leaf Hotel & Residence Frankfurt

4 of 5 stars
Fitchburg, WI
Dec 31, 2007

I stayed at the Golden Leaf from December 29 through 31. Expedia had a special for about USD 43/night (+9 in taxes and fees) for a single room and 50/night for a double room.

The hotel is in the Ostend area, close to the railway tracks of the Ostbahnhof station. The noise level from the trains is not high, but trains pass by every twenty or so minutes. The area feels safe, although I did not see many people walking in the neighbor during my stay.

Tram 11 runs along Hanauerstrasse, the main street in front of the hotel. The stop at Osthafenplatz is only a short (~2 minutes) from the hotel. The schedule is good - every 10 or so minutes during the day, and every 20 minutes in early morning and late evening. The tram goes to Römer (~5 minutes) and the main station (Hauptbahnhof, ~10 minutes). A journey to/from the airport is about 40 minutes.

If you that the U-bahn (underground, route U6) to Ostbahnhof, follow the directions to bus 31/tram, cross the street, and take tram 11. It's faster and safer than walking back to the hotel that way.

The check-in area is cozy, and the staff is very friendly.

The hotel is standard European - compact but nice. There is a bed, two chairs, a small coffee table, and a working desk. There are three closets, one uncovered. There is also a small "kitchenette" -- two stoves, a microwave, and a full set of cooking and dining utensils. The bathroom has a shower. My room is on the fifth floor, and there is a shared balcony.

There is a pizza place and a Japanese restaurant nearby, but I have not tried either. There is an "On the Run" at the Esso (Mobil) gas station one tram station to the east. If you take the tram further east, you will also find a Staples and an Aldi (supermarket).

“Golden leaf, recommended by me”

Dec 10, 2007

I satyed at the golden leaf based on reviewes in this site and was not disappointed. I was there for 2 nights and payed 54 eu/night via hotels.de (including breakfast which was not rich but sufficient). The staff was polite and helpful.
The room was spacious and modern and the kitchenette was very nice to have.
It is only about 15 minutes walk from the main shopping street (zeil str.) where the x-mas market was also located.
I consider it a good value for money.

“Love the Golden Leaf”

Golden Leaf Hotel & Residence Frankfurt

4 of 5 stars

My husband and I spent 10 nights at the Golden Leaf in February of 2007, and had a great time.

The Golden Leaf is a little out of the way, but we found the value of the hotel more than made up for the walking distance to the train. The walk to the train was about 15-20 minutes, and a healthful way to start the day. We would deffinately stay again.

The room was very comfortable, the street noise minimal, the bathroom very large and the kitchenette a well used convenience. There is a grocery store within a 5-10 minute walk, a great "stand up and eat" sausage shop across the street (a deffinate must is to try some of the sausage and mustard...absolutely fabulous), and Frankfurt's best pizza at the Devina Lounge. The Devina Lounge was newly opened, and they made us feel right at home. Try their vegetable appetizer.....it was Wunderbar! There's also a fast food type restaurant around the corner, where the staff was extremely helpful. Additionally, there is a liquor store next to the grocery store that sold a huge variety of beer and wine, at incredibly reasonable prices. Within one block, there was also a bakery, a coffee shop, and a Japanese restaurant. Note: Most restaurants close in the area Sundays. Make sure you have what you need for provisions before the shops close.

The hotel staff was great. We become ill half way through our trip, and they were able to help us find an Apothecary (pharmacist) for medicines. The staff greeted us warmly every day and was able to easily accomodate our non-smoking room request. We also used the hotel's small, but adequate sauna facilities.

Frankfurt was a great city to explore, and a good place to base out of. Day trips to Cologne, the Rhine river, Wurzberg, etc. are all within easy traveling distance on the train. The train station is a lot of fun, and we ate many reasonably priced meals there.

“Good city hotel. Bad restaurant service.”

Golden Leaf Hotel & Residence Frankfurt

Madeira, Portugal

I stayed there for 10 nights, during Worldcup 2006, and it is a good city hotel, with nice bedrooms and good bathroom. It doesn't have air condicioner so it is very hot during summer. The personnel was helpfull, but avoid the restaurant. The personnel at the restaurant are rude with customers. The breakfast is not worse for 11€. It is 5 min from city center by taxi, and has the city train very near. It as wifi internet access.
