“Like trying to sleep on the M25.”

Pity about this hotel. Yes, it's modern, clean, with nice, large rooms, and reasonably well situated for Corte Ingles, Malaga Ferrovia station, and the old town, but the traffic noise!!!!
We had a room in the front, third floor, and though it was Semana Santa and we paid double the normal rate, it was a waste of time, because the noise from outside made sleep impossible before 4 am. There is double-glazing, but it has no discernable effect on traffic noise. The other factor is that in Americans and the Spanish, you have the two most prominent races with no understanding of the concept that other guests in a hotel might actually want to sleep at night, so internally there was also a cacophony of sound and banging doors most of the night.
Two tips: avoid Semana Santa, and ( unfortunately) avoid this hotel

I don't know where TrevorH stayed, but it certainly wasn't the Tryp Alameda. The hotel is nowhere near the docks; it's at the rear of the Larios Centros shopping mall in a good part of town. It's also within a short walk of the bus and RENFE stations.

A great hotel with spacious rooms; fully air-conditioned, minibar, TV with English channels. Good sized bathrooms with plenty of toiletries and towels.

Good quality breakfast served in the restaurant, with some hot options, fruits, lots of sweet stuff - a Spanish favourite - toast and cheeses and meats.

Tip: If you want tea, ask the staff for "leche fria" - cold milk - otherwise they'll bring a jug of hot milk.

We found that if you go during the week proceeding Easter you will have much less traffic but alot more people on the street celebrating. The food was very good as was the service at the hotel. We are looking forward to next year!

“Huge room, some road noise.”

The Tryp Alameda was notable mainly for the very large, comfortable room we had. We had a seperate seating area near the window, which made for plenty of space.

The only slight reservation I would have following our night in this hotel was the noise from the road outside. It's quite a busy road and there was some noise from a bin lorry doing it's roads some time after midnight. Of course, you could just close the window when you're trying to sleep.

There's a Telepizza shop just across the road, should you require a late night snack. Hopefully they'll be less confused with your order than they were with all those they got on the night we visited.

“A nice hotel, in a scruffy part of town”

We stayed at the Hotel Alameda for 2 nights in February 2006. It was in a strange place - the 8th floor of an office block!

It was a nice hotel, but in a somewhat poor part of town - opposite the docks and with a sex shop on the adjoining street!

That said the managment were pretty friendly and the room clean and tidy. It was quite handy getting to and from the sites in Malaga - I'd definitely recommend paying a visit to the Picasso museum.

Look out for the traffic lights with animated "walk" men - one of the highlights of Malaga!
