“doubts about the Emperatriz”

Hotel Emperatriz

Jul 31, 2007

This is not a bad hotel -- but for the price it's not a good hotel: it has deteriorated since we last stayed there five years ago. This time we had air conditioning problems in our room; the door card did not work properly day after day; the hall carpets are worn and a little dirty, and the room itself was a bit worn and damaged in places. On the other hand, the location is convenient, the breakfast is good (but expensive), and the staff are generally quite welcoming. Word has it that the hotel is being rented to the Hesperia chain -- which has a five-star establishment across the street. They need to take a close look at the Emperatriz -- and bring it up to standard!

“Loved the room and the hotel staff”

Hotel Emperatriz

Jul 26, 2007

At the begining was a little worried about going there because of some stories I have heard about the hotel from friends that stayed there before but that was before Hesperia took over the hotel.

The room we got was GREAT (an we were 3 people staying there). Even the Extra Bed was fabulous. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was one of the best I ever had in spain.

As it was a triple room with extra bed the hotel staff placed every day extra toiletries (enough for even 5 People) and made sure that extra towels for the 3rd person were there.

The hotel bathroom had a bidet, which I personally find very useful.

The view we got was a little nice courtyard, the AC was working perfectly and the location of the hotel is fantastic! only 3 minutes walk to the metro station and honestly...even if your hotel is at the "Puerta del Sol" you need to take the underground to move. Taxis are cheap but the traffict in the city is horrible!

“Very quiet in a central location”

Hotel Emperatriz

Feb 28, 2007

I stayed at the hotel Hesperia Emperatriz for a couple of nights. I found the hotel above average: perfect location for business (fast taxi ride from the airport) and visit (a few hundred meters away from a subway station).

The hotel is in a very quiet area; the rooms are clean. The staff is very helpfull.

“Comfortable hotel for City Break”

I stayed in the Emperatriz for 3 nights on business. Admittedly, I worked in the room most nights, and only saw my room, breakfast room, and reception.

Overall, service was good and efficient, and politely friendly. My room was an interesting shape, with a short entrance corridor. There was a minibar with standard selection, the bathroom was clean and modern, with the soaps, etc. being pretty good. The TV had a mix of European channels, although it was pretty old and I never managed to get any sound on it! I had to unplug it in any case to plug in my laptop.

Overall, it was a fine hotel; not outstanding, but I was pleased enough to stay there. The one thing that struck me was the breakfast. Standard selection of continental, cold meats, etc... but the quality was excellent. The croissants were the best I've tasted in a hotel for ages, and I expect the rest was just as good. This implied to me that attention to detail on the various aspects I didn't sample would be equally good.

“Great smaller hotel in Madrid”

Hotel Emperatriz

Stayed at the Hotel Emperatriz for four nights in September. It's located in the upscale Salamanca area with a Metro stop five minutes away. I emailed in advance to make sure we had an exterior room on a high floor and that's exactly what we got. The room was lovely, nicely decorated and clean with a large window overlooking a small park. Because it's on a small street off Paseo de Castellano, there's little traffic noise. The hotel staff were pleasant and most spoke some English. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others.
