“Good Hotel”

Mecenate Palace

4 of 5 stars
Rome, Italy
Oct 8, 2007

Stayed in in March 2004. Very nice hotel a few blocks from the main railway station.

Hotel is a typical European hotel with not many facilities on the Ground Floor. Restaurant was on the top floor of building. A nice buffet breakfast was served.

The room was above average. Nicely decorated and clean.

“A Perfect Choice”

Arrived weary and room was 1 hour shy of being ready (it was only noon) so they were very nice about keeping our luggage while we walked across the street to tour the basilica, then ate an enjoyable lunch at the corner outside cafe. We were extremely pleased with our Room #415 which overlooked the piazza with a grand view of St. M. Maggliore - breathtaking - the room being very clean, comfy kingsize bed, very nice bathroom with all the amenities you could want + great shower! Kept the large window open to enjoy the sights but was concerned about the traffic noise; however, the triple paned window (?) kept out all the noise and we enjoyed 3 nights of great sleep w/quiet A/C. Breakfast on the terrace was very enjoyable - choices of juice, cereals, pastries, rolls and fresh fruit. Front desk staff always very courteous and helpful. Great location with metro just a short walk away and walkable to all the main Rome attractions. We always felt safe walking back to the hotel at night, whether from the downtown area or from the metro. We would definitely stay here again and am glad we chose this very fine hotel.

Just spent a week at this hotel and would definitely return if I ever visit Rome again.
Excellent, clean room. Friendly staff. Adequate free breakfast.
Free newspapers available. Free upgrade to a deluxe room because we stayed more than 5 nights.
Best feature is it's location. 5-10 minutes from trains, subway and buses.

“Classy hotel”

Mecenate Palace

4 of 5 stars

The Mecenate Palace is really quite a classy hotel and we were well pleased with our 3 night stay there.

We had booked a triple room and were allocated a room in the Executive Suite. This is located in an annex to the main hotel - it is actually up a flight of steps from the pavement. At the top of the steps you go through a small reception hall where there is an open inner courtyard. Most of the rooms in the Executive suite open into this courtyard.

Room was very nice indeed. Double bed into left and the extra bed was a bed settee in the room straight ahead as you entered. Bathroom was luxurious with the hand basin surrounded by a marble top and there was a nice spa bath.

Air conditioning was not working at first so was reset at our request by reception. After this, it was severe to the extent the room was cold! The beds had quite a thick blanket on them which puzzled us at first and we took them off to sleep during the first night. We were actually cold during the night and the following nights kept them on - we needed them!

A feature of the hotel is the roof-top terrace. This comprises two parts, the breakfast room and the more open bar area. Views are lovely.

Breakfast was okay and the hotel do serve a limited range of simple bistro type dishes on the rooftop terrace in the evening. Adequate enough if you are not too hungry.

We ate one night in the street café on the corner beside the hotel entrance. Ok but not the best and very under-staffed with only a single over worked waiter serving. The next night we walked a couple of blocks towards Termini station where we ate in a street restaurant which was much superior and if anything may have been slightly cheaper.

Impressive looking hotel and rooftop terrace is lovely

“Wonderful Wedding Reception at the Mecenate Palace!”

Mecenate Palace

I don't even know where to start this, as I have so many wonderful things to say about this hotel and its staff. I got married on August 24th 2007 and stayed in this hotel for the duration of my stay in Rome. With a lot of help from Alberto, I organised a wonderful wedding reception for us and 30 guests (thanks Vitto and all the guys!!). The food was excellent, the wine flowed and the roof terrace provided us with a welcome haven from the hot streets below. Most of my guests also stayed at this hotel (ages ranged from 1 to 65) and everyone had the most amazing time.
We all felt that it was a good base to travel around rome - with a tour bus stopping directly opposite the hotel. The view of the Basiliica from my hotel window made me feel as if I was in a film. The rooms were excellent (with tea and coffee facilities, which isn't always the case in Rome hotels - SO important if you drink as much tea/coffee as my new husband!) Even guests who had stayed in other Rome hotels (Fancy ones at that!) raved and swore that they would stay again when next in Rome. I can honestly say that not one Italian was rude to me - they may not crack a smile every time they see you though. I have not got one complaint - only that my trip wasn't long enough!
