Booked with Alpharooms, got for £61 a night - seems a lot, but it is the high high season, so not too bad DONT BELIEVE IT HAS AIRCON!!!!!!!! On alpharooms it says it does - have complained and will take it further but it is not the fault of the aparthotel I guess.
The location is pretty good, across road from the main beach, miles long and really clean and lovely even in high season.
has a really nice clean pool and palm trees and plenty of sunloungers.
About 2km walk from the local town,( windy rough road - no path in places) which, although touristy a bit, has a really great lovely atmosphere and is equally full of Portuguese as other nations - a great place for families and couples like us wanting a totally relaxing place to holiday.
Accomodation and facilities of the hotel are pretty basic and the staff, although not unfriendly seem pretty depressed, and used to dealing with foreign tourists unhappy at lack of aircon.
Rooms have twin beds in airless bedroom area of accom, with no aircon or fan. This can get uncomfortably warm in hot summer.
Beds are extremely hard (common in Portugal we found, but these were extreme) so we slept in the spare beds in the lounge - these were much softer and a cooler area with balcony doors open - moved our sheets every day.
Selfcatering is usually a bit lower quality than straightforward rooms, so it is ok - everything works and there is a really great range of utensils, plates, even a sharp knife and bottleopener. Has a working fridge, freezer and 2 hobs, plus a balcony, dining furniture, cable tv, as well as balcony furniture.
At first we were dismayed by the look of the place - esp the dodgy old lifts. The whole place needs a good refurb.
But we did tick all the boxes we wanted - relaxing, quiet, nearest to beach possible, walk to old town, nice pool and relaxing area, being left alone and feeling like we have our own space, with fridge and facilities to make our own snacks and tea and cold drinks whenever we wanted, so we can't really complain too much - other than that it didn't have aircon. Maybe there are better places to stay, but this is ok too, esp if you are stuck. we didnt use the main bar aarea or breakfast area but it looked pretty dismal and dreary.
Notably we were going to stay at the Tivoli Lagos, and we watched their bus pull up to the beach beside us regularly throughout the day, but we were glad to have a bit more space, privacy and quiet. Stil when we arrived and wanted to cahnge accom the Tivoli Lagos prices had skyrocketed and we couldnt afford to change accom(even though when we booked originally ther Dom Pedro was £61 and the Tivoli was £75, Tivoli was then £200 on expedia )!
Best part was trying the restaurant located by Dom Pedro - called 'atlantico' The best taste and best value food we ahev had in many a long year. Highly highly recommend it. You can also pay less for a smaller dish e.g. I had a 100g fillet for 13.5 euros (£10) and it came with gorgeous veg, potato and sauce and I can't believe the perfection. Totally wow! for such dodgy accom to have such wonderful resturant is such a contrast. Well worth a taxi ride if you are staying in the old town or marina, avoid the dodgy tourist haunts and come out here!!!
