“A real find”

I have just returned from a second stay at this charming hotel, or more accurately, guest house. This place is a real find as in my experience accommodation in Portugal leans towards the shabby side of things. All rooms are suites as has been pointed out which makes this place somewhere you actually want to spend some time rather than just a place to rest your head. Also, if the weather is a bit off then you have a great selection of satellite channels in English to watch. The ground floor rooms are the best as it's like having a private pool and loungers outside your patio doors. The location is fantastic right inside the old walls and the decor is stunning. Yes, the light is weak in the bathroom but this is an old restored building, not a Holiday Inn and you need to expect the odd idiosynchracy. The only complaint I have is the lack of staff. On both occasions the manager was hardly ever around and the girls who do pretty much everything speak not a work of English nor Spanish (I tried both) which makes asking the simplest question a real challenge. The manager does speak fluent English but you have to phone him up to talk to him. The breakfasts here are great and the views from the roof dining area are superb. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

I have just returned from a four night stay at this small hotel. The situation is very good, being very quiet yet only 5 mins from the town centre, with a large free public car park just around the corner. You enter the property through a most impressive entrance hall. However, the only time we saw the manager was on the first evening and apart from that there were two young girls who seemed to do everything - language differences made any sort of communication practically impossible. The rooms are all suites, ours was on the ground floor, it was Moorish style but rather shabby, comprising a small, dark bedroom, large living area with direct access to the patio/pool area (a real sun trap with excellent loungers) and with a small basic kitchen area. There was satelite tv wih a large number of channels, direct dial telephone , but no internet access. The batheoom was horrible, nasty very old tired and bleach stained navy blue towels and bathrobes, cracked tiles, a hole in the wall and soooo dark I had to make-up in the living room as it was impossible to see anything! !The rooftop breakfast area was delightful with an excellent range of bakery goods, cheeses, fruits, cereals, juices, yogurts, horrible coffee and very slow service for cooked items. The other ground floor apartment overlooking the pool had no space between the french windows and pool, VERY DANGEROUS if you have children in your party.

We just got back from our trip to Lagos and our stay here. It's a nice, cozy place, but has HORRIBLE customer service.
We contacted the hotel directly months before to reserve a room facing the pool. After emailing back and forth a bit, we were confirmed in an apartment facing the pool. When we arrived, we were given a dark, ground floor apartment facing the street! After arguing with the manager (or owner?) for some time, he agreed to reduce the price marginally since no other room was available and he even suggested that we stay at a different hotel if we preferred. They only have 8 apartments, so I find it inexcusable that they can't manage to book rooms properly according to guest's requests.
In the end we decided to stay, and found the hotel to be reasonably clean with a decent breakfast. But the whole incident definitely ruined what was supposed to be the most relaxing end of our vacation.

“Really special”

We stayed there for 9 nights with our 3 year old and had a wonderful time. They only have suites (living room has pullout couch) and we also had a balcony and a nice little kitchen. This enabled us to be in a separate room than our daughter, which was great. Breakfast was provided, very good fruit and cheese and pastries. The moroccan decor is very attractive and evocative. Only thing to remember is that it's a cash only establishment.
