“A quite good adress”

Senhora da Guia

The Senhora da Guia is a very elegant property in front of the ocean but... there is a busy road at day just in the middle and unfortunately, it's hard to relax in the pool area because it's really too noisy and to relax is impossible.
However, at night, the peaceful and sereine atmosphere comes back and thus, you can feel much better in your room, large, well decorated with nice pieces of furniture and a lovely scheme of colours. The comfort of the bed is very satisfacting and there is a good breakfast buffet for a nice wake up. About the soundproofing, our room was located in the old building and be sure it's very quiet and i haven't hear any noise from an other room.
About the staff, if the front desk staff is particularly smily and efficient (except the one for the check out because the bill wasn't correct and he has had a lot of difficulties to trust me about the rate i'd booked... not very professionnal...), the staff at the restaurant is so-so, nice but not very elegant. But in general, it's good.
But the main problem is maybe the location because if you can have some great views, it's located far from Cascais, approximatly 5 kilometers (and not 3 as indicated) and there isn't any complimentary shuttle service. You have to take a taxi at each time and it costs about 5-6 euros per way... A bit boring...
Consequently, i can't say this is the best choice in Cascais but this is a good hotel, extremly comfortable and a good value for a five stars hotel.

“very nice BUT..............!!”

Senhora da Guia

Indeed very nice hotel, very friendly staff BUT...........
walls between rooms in new wing are made of paper.
You can hear EVERYTING from nextdoor rooms, tv's, conversations, bath/shower, toilet (YES). Doorlocks are made that you have to slam the door when leaving the room (hearing 20 doors slam when people go out for breakfast, returning from breakfast etc. is no fun when you are trying to sleep). We moved to a room upstairs wich was just very little better so we gave up.
Staff is very friendly but give sometimes wrong information: We asked how much a taxi would be on a saturdaymorning to Sintra , they said 35,00/40,00 euro each way. Actual rate was 17,00 euro.
Rooms are nice decorated, beds very good, breakfast perfect, restaurant very good, poolside very nice too but 5 stars ? No way.

“Senhora Da Guia...a nice little oasis”

Senhora da Guia

May 7, 2007
4/4 found this review helpful

We "defected" to Senhora Da Guia after a disappointing night at the Tivoli Palacio Setais. Our travel agent had originally pushed for the SDG but I resisted, prefering to stay in sintra rather then the slightly too touristy Cascais. But, I'm so glad we did. The SDG is approximately 3 km from the town of Cascais, right across the street from the beach and a great restaurant and walking distance to a few others. The property itself is lovely. Modern comfortable rooms, a lovely lounge/bar area, excellent staff. The outside deck off the lounge has a perfect view of the ocean, with hedges high enough to block out the view of traffic, you don't even know you're on a major road. Nice pool area and gardens on the side. A small but chic looking spa area with hot tub, gym and sauna. They say it closes at 9 but they let you use it way into the night. We didn't eat in the restaurant , chose to stay in the lounge with the comfy couches, great service and cozy fireplace. This is a place you could call "home" for a little while. Highly recommend if you're looking for a base for the estoril/cascais/sintra area.

“Very nice place”

Senhora da Guia

Hartford, CT

We just spent 4 days here and had a lovely time. The staff and service was excellent. The food was very good. Wonderful breakfast included with the room. Dinner and lunch were pricey but very nice. You could eat on their outdoor patio which has a lovely view of the sea. The location of the hotel is a little out of the way from the excitement of a city. They are on a wonderful bike and walking path to beaches and Cascais. The room was very nice, but the carpet could use some updating.
