We were allowed to check into our room as soon as we arrived at 11am instead of waiting until 3pm which was a bonus.
We had booked a triple room and was allocated a suite on the 9th floor, a twin bedded room with tv and wardrobes, drawers etc plus bathroom with bath/shower/sink/toilet & bidet. Also the lounge area had another tv plus mini bar and a sofa bed.
The sheets were white, fresh and crisp and were changed each day along with the towels. Nice and spacious rooms.
Breakfast was great, a huge choice, plenty of fresh and some tinned fruit, cereal, yoghurt, fruit juices, water, bread, rolls, cakes, ham and cheeses plus cooked eggs, sausages, bacon. Tea & Coffee, lots of choice.
Breakfast was the main time that we saw other guests in the hotel, it was always very quiet so I assume people were out and about enjoying the city.
There is a hotel snack bar/restaurant which is strangely located in another building, we did eat there on one occasion and it is adequate for a light meal, staff once again friendly and helpful, on the night we went there was a Portuguese family birthday party so it was buzzing.
There is a small bar but Domingo goes at 11.30pm so its lights out and drink up.
There are some areas that need modernising and certain parts that could do with refurbishment but on the whole this hotel is clean and tidy and maintains a certain charm from bygone days.
All staff that we came into contact with were friendly and efficient.
We paid 10 Euro deposit for a safe which was returned on check out.
The hotel exterior is not particularly attractive and could do with freshening up, the front of the hotel faces the Marques De Pombal roundabout and the side entrance is on Rua Duque de Palmela which is again busy and has building work opposite which was very noisy when we arrived but seemed to quieten
down.
The hotel also faces Eduardo VII park which is a pleasant walk away but the traffic is terrible and care needs to be taken crossing the roads. The Metro station is right outside and is a great service. We walked into the town which took about 20 mins, seemed longer coming back though. I had thought the hotel was closer to the main restaurants and bar area when originally booking it but we overcame this and were pleased with the service we received there.
We tried all forms of transport, buses, trams, metro, trains and were pleased that we experimented.
For our last night we booked a table at Restaurant Sancho, wow, it was wonderful, well worth the treat.
Lisbon is warm and friendly, we tried to fit as much into 3 days as possible including a trip to Belem but we need to return to experience so much more.
