This place was amazing. It was beautiful, peaceful and relaxing. Service was great. We had a room facing the water. It was large by European standards. The on site restaurant had us coming back every night. The staff was helpful and nice. In the afternoon we sat on the terrace and relaxed with our drinks just watching the harbor activity. The location is great for exploring the area. Quick drive to the beaches (15 min.) or just along the coast.
There was only one draw back. The beds are pretty hard. Wish they were softer, then this would have been perfect.

We stayed for one night on 23rd September. We have to say that Setubal itself is not the most picturesque of towns but the Pousada at the top of the hill overlooking Setubal is a lovely place. We were lucky enough to be allocated a split-level room that had a living room upstairs that opened up onto a little bacony on the terrace area. If you love authentic historical buildings, then this is your place. The restaurant was also very good and the service very attentive. This is a great place to stay if you are travelling along the coast. We were travelling from the Algarve to Lisbon and this stay in between was a lovely break.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at this Castle. I mean, this is REALLY a castle. There were few people there, the restaraunt in the castle is very quiet, beautiful, and good food. The Castle at night is beautiful, you can look out of the window and see a long lit shoreline ... and if you walk atop the hotel, there is no lights, to just give you a chill and feeling like the old castle days before electricity. It is a very quiet place. Staff was marvelous. Since we were on our honeymoon, we had special fruit plate and mineral water in our room. The rooms are beautiful, by the way. Simple, elegant. Bathroom had a view of the shoreline, wow. We spent two weeks in Portugal and Spain, but Sao Filipe is our best three nights.
