“Do not accept a room looking onto the road!!!”

Makedonia Palace - Classical Hotels

2 of 5 stars
Peterhead, United Kingdom
Apr 10, 2008

We had a room on the 6th floor overlooking a 3 lane motorway. The noise was quite simply phenomenal. We could not keep the windows open because of the traffic noise plus the ridiculous level of noise emanating from a bar somewhere on the property. However, we were also unable to sleep because the room was too hot and stuffy. Turning down the controls made no difference. Likewise, for some strange reason, the only socket which accepted a travel adapter was the one attached to the mini bar. This made life difficult for mobile phones, laptops and charging cameras.

The staff really do need to start taking some happy pills. I tipped the bell captain on my arrival but it seems like if you weren't prepared to tip him every single time you wanted a taxi, he just ignored you.

On the positive side, the room was large, tidy and the bed was comfy. The breakfast was really good, in fact the choice was the best I've seen, but the manager in the breakfast room had a really irritating habit of snapping his fingers at us to direct us to our table each time.

This hotel would be bearable, if you stay on the sea side, your company is paying for everything and you tip every time someone phones for a taxi. Other than that, it is simply a good conference hotel.

“Very nice hotel!”

Makedonia Palace - Classical Hotels

Feb 25, 2008

My husband and I stayed at the Makedonia Palace during the weekend of February 15th till 17th and we both loved the place. Even though the hotel isn't all that great looking on the outside, the inside is suprisingly charming. The room was nicely decorated with a queen size bed, nice wooden furniture, large tv with a work desk and armchairs. The bathroom was also nice and spacious. The staff from when we checked in up until our check out was very pleasant and helpful. On Friday night we wanted to try the Sushi Bar inside the hotel. Even though all tables were reserved one of the front desk staff did his best to find and book us a table that night. The Sushi was awesome and the prices were decent. The next night we ate at the sea food reastaurant in the hotel which was also nice. The breakfast buffet was Fantastic with a Large variety of just about everything. The hotel has a newstand in the lobby which was convenient since we needed to buy a few personal items without having to leave the hotel itself. There are also a few high-end shops around the lobby and a fitness room with pool view. Makedonia Palace left us with the best impressions. We highly recommend this hotel for your stay in the city of Thessaloniki.

“Good with a few odd twists”

Makedonia Palace - Classical Hotels

I stayed at this hotel during the Helexpo. it is very close to the event and easy to get to most of the major events in that area. The hotel was nice, and clean. However, I would say it was not what I would call a 5 star hotel. Three with an extra one for effort would be appropriate.

The staff was wonderful, and the hotel was nice. However, it lacked the quality and consistency that one finds in a fine hotel. An example is the golden gnome (see photos) that was in my suite. I could not for the life of me figure out why it was there.

My suite was nice if you like black. Black wallpaper, black bedding, black chairs, black furniture. A bit of contrast would have been nice. However, the room was very clean and the household staff did a great job.

I was there during the election and both the President and Prime Minister were there during my stay (so I am guessing it is the better hotel in town). Security was tight, but other than that, no issues.

Breakfast was nice. The buffet was top notch. The smoking was awful in all dining areas and bars. People completely disregarded the no smoking areas, and the hotel did not reinforce them. But then this is Greece and that seems to be par for the course.

“Best hotel I've stayed at in Greece”

Makedonia Palace - Classical Hotels

Stayed at the Makedonia Palace while visiting my family and touring the city.

The hotel cannot be situtated any better in the city. Its central to all, a 10-15 min walk to the shops at Tsimiski and the White Tower, and a quick cab ride to most places in the city.

The hotel is situated on the water and you can enjoy wonderful views of the city's harbor and bay from the south side.

I've stayed in many hotels in Greece, and this was clearly the best hotel room I've stayed in. In Greece, many of the four and five star hotels have nice lobbies, nice pools, nice restaurants, but the rooms leave you wondering why the hotel is rated a four or five star.

The rooms are upscale, offering alot of amenities, alot of TV channels, and free internet in the room. The king sized bed was an actual king size bed, and not two singles pushed together with a blanket in between like many hotels in Greece do.

The staff was gracious throughout and spoke English very well, although we easily communicated in both Greek and English. We had to add a third person in our room at the last minute, and upon arrival, the bed was delivered and then set by the maids in less than 10 minutes. Very fast.

The pool area is nice and spacious, although the hotel allows "club members" (locals who pay a monthly fee) to use the pool and gym.

The lounge and restaurant at the top on the ninth floor offer wonderful views of the city.

The only negative is the cost of food and drinks. A regular soft drink at the lounge cost 4 euros, while juice cost 6 euros.
