“Great hotel”

Hotel Rival

The funky Hotel Rival makes a great alternative to the bland minimalism of Stockholm's other high-end hotels, and is situated in a pretty good part of town (although in a city this small, every hotel is well-situated), being only a 10 minute walk from the Slussen vantage point and 15 minutes from historic Gamla Stan. Our "deluxe" room was reasonably large and airy, with a nice view into the leafy Maria Torget square. Wood floors, trendy furnishings, large flat screen telly, teddy bear and a giant still of a picnic scene from "Abba: The Movie" hanging over our bed contrived to make a fun and charming room. The gigantic shower and a bath with a window into the bedroom also found favour with us.
Downstairs, the mezzanine cocktail bar is a great place to start/end an evening out. I didn't eat in the bistro, but the food in the café looked decidedly sub-par.
The only negative for me is the a/c issue mentioned by another reviewr below. The room was quite warm for my tastes, and the large number of bars in the neighbourhood means that it is too loud to open a window at night. That said, this is a pretty minor niggle, as I still slept well in the exquisitely comfortable bed (and, for the record, my wife disagrees that the room was too warm).

“First Class”

My wife and I stayed here for our 1st Wedding Anniversary and loved everything about the stay. The hotel is perfectly located in the Södermalm district over looking the Mariatorget Park just 5 minutes from Slussen where you can cross to the old town Gamla Stan or take a boat to Djurgårdens and other nearby Islands and only 20mins walk from the city centre.

The staff were fantastic the entire time, they were helpful, polite and speak fluent English if needed, even well before our visit they happily assisted me with some special arrangements for my wife and I for our anniversary evening.

The hotel is wonderfully decorated and the rooms among the nicest we have seen during our numerous city visits across Europe. We can recommend digging a little deeper and taking the deluxe suites to get the best views and a balcony not too mention plenty of other extras.

The breakfast is of high standard with options to cater for all tastes and we will certainly be booking here again for our next Stockholm trip.

We selected the hotel by researching tripadvisor. On arrival for our two-night stay, the clerk let us know about a planned city event, a "midnight" 10 K race running past the hotel. Happily, I needed a run anyway so we walked to the nearby stadium to sign up. The hotel is by a small park, in a nice, but not too quiet, area. We had an upgraded room, which is the same smallish size as others, but has large french doors opening to the park. Sounds nice, but alas, they don't do air conditioning, and the big open windows let in noise from the pretty young things going in and out of the nearby nightclubs at night. No fights or loud music, just folks talking and calling to each other until about 3am. We were on what I would call the third floor, so higher floors, or cheaper rooms in the back, might be quieter. The room has lovely furnishing and fixtures, like living in a modern art museum. Bedding was great. Bathrooms, you wouldn't believe how opulent. This place is perfect for younger, hipper, well-off travellers. Perfect for honeymoon, if the weather isn't hot (to be fair, it was only in the high seventies). I did run the 10K (11000 participants) through the streets of Stockholm, in 56 minutes.

“Needs Air Conditioning”

My wife & I just spent a night at the Hotel Rival in Stockholm. The hotel is very upscale. Great bar & buffet breakfast. The room was large. We even had a pillow menu & a teddy bear in our room. So what could be wrong about this hotel?
It needs air conditioning badly. We picked the one night when a marathon was in progressin the square right under our window.. We didn't see any runners but we did hear really loud music, screaming, a very loud DJ speaking in Swedish of course. Until midnight. Because of the warm night & the lack of air conditioning our window & balcony door had to remain open. We couldn't even close the drapes because the window & door opened into the room. We called downstairs to the front desk. They were sympathetic to our plight. I'm sure many other guests complained also. If we knew about the marathon we would have changed hotels. There were plenty of nice ones much closer to the center of Stockholm. They did adjust our rate which I thought was very fair, but losing a night's sleep made the stay miserable
