“No Problems!”

Haydn Hotel Vienna

Nov 7, 2007

Despite the comments of previous reviewers, we had no problems with this hotel.

The room, though small, was clean and comfortable. There was no noise issue - and we stayed on a Saturday night. Our room did not face the street so the view was ugly drainage pipes etc. but no noise.

Staff (at the front desk, breakfast room and cleaners) were all very friendly. The breakfast consisted of the usual sliced meats and cheese, bread and cereal. In addition there was also nuts, dried fruit and yoghurt. Impressive!

Another plus was the parking. The hotel has an arrangement with a car garage just around the corner and can provide parking for a much lower rate than the posted price.

Overall, a pleasant stay.

“Not a good deal”

Hotel Haydn was not as nice as their website touts. I would not recommend this hotel unless you really have to be on the Marianhilfstrasse Street. The street is a shoppers haven but there are also shops in the city center when you're looking around the older part of the city.

Problems and highlights:
1. My first hotel room was dark and smelled of old furniture. The furnishing were very poor but bedding was clean. The window looked depressingly out into the dark gutteral vent for the building. The bathroom was awkwardly arranged, also very dark, and overall, it was not the nicest welcome to Vienna. I felt overall depressed. Breakfast is continental which means simple bread, coldcuts, and cereal.
2. The hotel does has internet but costs money. Even the use of their own computer costs money. They do not offer English programming on their cable which consisted of only 8 or 9 channels. It didn't look like cable tv to me because everything was German with a couple French.
3. They also charge for airconditioner use. Which you may need to get rid of the dank room smell.
4. Showers are good as they have full showerheads. Bathroom is poorly ventilated. Nice towel supply. I really like German toilets- efficient and clean. Poor lighting for doing much in the room. Again, room is a little creepy, dark, small, old furnishing. No slippers.
5. The hotel is nicely located next to the Marianhilfe church which also has a nice small farmer's market in its courtyard. You can get fresh produce, wine and juices there for very good prices.
6. About a kilometer to the main old city area. On the way, lots of shops and interesting Austrian wares.

So overall, the staff was accomodating and helpful, but I would recommend the many many other hotels such as the IBIS hotels (they provide free wireless) or the newer lesser known ones closer to the old city. Problem is, they are harder to locate on the hotel searching sites.

“Great Room Great Location”

Haydn Hotel Vienna

We spent one week at the Haydn Hotel. Our room was very nice (second floor). It looked like it had been refurbished recently. The bathroom was spacious and modern, the room was very clean. We did not have any street noise (our view was the back of the church next door). The breakfast was very good--I liked the rolls. The staff was helpful and friendly. This hotel is away from the main tourist area; however, it is located in a popular shopping area and close to a subway station. Would stay here again in Room 214.

“A bit noisy, otherwise fine”

Haydn Hotel Vienna

The only problem with the Hotel Haydn is the street noise, as other reviewers have remarked. The street that the hotel is on is the city's shopping district and that translates to bright signs and a lot of traffic until fairly late. If you like to go to bed early, this can be a real nuisance. After about 11pm, though, things quited down a lot.
Otherwise, the hotel has a lot to recommend for it. The price was good, if not great, the staff was helpful, the rooms very clean. The location is superb: walking distance to many things, just a block or so from the subway/metro connection; perfect for the tourist or anyone else. There are a large number of restaurants within a couple blocks as well as a grocer, bakery, etc.
All in all, I would stay there again but you do have to factor in the evening noise and lights.

“do not stay here!”

Haydn Hotel Vienna

We stayed at the Haydn Hotel in January 2006. Loved Vienna (Wien), hated the Haydn. Basically, the staff were rude and aggressive.

The first room we were shown stank like cigarette smoke, in the second the bathroom stank like an open sewer. The rooms all face onto a very noisy main street, opposite the hotel there is a large construction site with huge cranes and it can be quite noisy. The breakfast is comparatively okay - stale bread, cheap jam and tired cold cuts of meat.

However our main problem was with the staff, who were not helpful or friendly. For example, the night duty man on the desk told us that our laundry would be 5.20 euro x2, when we checked out the charge was suddenly 25 euro. When challenged the staff became extremely rude and aggressive and then dismissive.

I will never stay at the Haydn again.
