This hotel is a converted manor house. It has all the advantages and disadvantages you would expect from that status:
Pros: excellent secluded location with views over a private valley; extensive grounds including small pitch and putt golf course, outdoor pool, croquet lawn; impressive formal rooms which are now used for the dining room, bar, and lounge; private helipad (slightly out of my league!); good countryside walks available, including one to Broome Farm Cider.
Cons: it's an old building, so a bit creaky in places, and lacks air conditioning; many of the guest rooms are in the outbuildings which might be a bit of a pain if the weather is bad; located well outside the nearest town, so not suitable if you're looking for nightlife - even the nearest pub is a mile away!
Although it is an old building, the rooms have obviously been refitted quite recently; for example the one I used had a modern bathroom with power shower. Also, being part of the Best Western chain, internet access is available in public areas (although not in some guest rooms)
In summary, this is an ideal spot if you are looking for an out-of-town hotel with character, and can live with the compromises inherent in an old building. If you go expecting the facilites of a big modern hotel you will likely be disappointed.
