“beautiful place”

Borgo di Pietrafitta Relais

We stayed here for 5 nights during our honeymoon on the "honeymoon package" they offered on their website. We had an amazing stay. i would echo everything that people have said already about this place. Luigi was great - we were upgraded to the tower suite - which is a seperate building with a tower - the tower itself has 2 seperate sleeping areas - which we didnt use of course (as there were 2 bedrooms and bathroom on the main floor) but this would be perfect for kids to stay in - and we went up there to look at daily as it was so quaint - and the views from the windows were incredible. We didnt know exactly what to do during our stay when we arrived, but Luigi spent an hour gave us great advice on restaurants, booked us for a wine tour and dinner as part of our package, and we had wine and olive oil in our room when we arrived. We ate out for the first 3 nights, then were invited over for dinner by people we met at the pool one night (!!) and finally made pasta ourselves the last night - and the only thing i regret was that given how amazing the pasta was - we bought freshly made pesto and tomatoe sauce and pasta from the local grocery store - we should have stayed in every night!!! (that and i didnt have to gelato in castellina which i have read on this site since i have been back was to die for). They have an infinity pool which is beautiful, we took a drink down and sat and looked at the view (and swam) - the view was really just like in the movies. They didnt have a hairdrier - which was my only complaint about the whole trip here. Also - I would REALLY advise renting a car with GPS to get around Chianti. Worth every penny. Would absolutely stay here again.

My husband and I were in Italy in mid-May. We had research Pietrafitta prior to arriving however we had booked elsewhere. Once in Castellina, we stopped by and fell in love with it and fortunately for us, they had availability so we changed our plans, switched inns and stayed for the remainder of our vacation.

Luigi and Vera were wonderful hosts. Your every need is accommodated here. They help you with everything and offer great suggestions for wine tastings, restaurants, sightseeing, etc. It is perfectly located and a short drive to all the great nearby towns in the Chianti region, as well as Siena, Florence, Pisa, etc.

They also held a wine tasting on-site for all guests while we were there. It was great to taste their wines (and great olive oil).

While the apartments did indeed offer every creature comfort, the only thing it lacked was a hairdryer...everything else was there, even a washing machine which is key when you are traveling abroad for a peroide of time. We loved the kitchen and enjoyed cooking our meals with local produce and fresh made pasta from Radda.

We will be sure to return next year when we go back!

PS-Be sure to go to Ristoro di Lamole and the incredible gelato shop in Castellina in Chianti...it was great-we went each and every day!!!

Ciao!

For us, this was the ideal base for exploring Chianti. The complex itself is located on a typical Tuscan hillside about a klik or two outside Castellina in Chianti.

Other points in Chianti, Florence, Siena and San Gimignano were an easy drive away. Castellina is a charming little town in its own right with a tourist office and shops.

What would you call Pietrafitta -- an estate? a farm complex? an old village? It has all been expertly restored. The estate even has its own restaurant (which we didn't visit) and church (still under restoration while we were there). You do probably need a car to stay here. Pietrafitta is not in itself a village with grocery shops and so on.

The two-bedroom apartment itself was spacious, charming, comfortable and fully equipped. It was all stone and wood, and yet had all the mod cons. Modern, easy to use kitchen. Large fridge. All you need to do is buy a few groceries before you arrive.

The TV had CNN and BBC World. We went in April and it was raining, but the heating worked fine. Towels and blankets were supplied and sufficient.

Luigi and Vera were perfect hosts. Luigi went out of his way to help us and expertly recommended the right wine tour for us. When I booked I was a little concerned about which unit we would be getting, but I needn't have been. We were allocated exactly the right accommodation.

Would I recommend this to others? An unqualified yes. Indeed, I feel right now that it would be foolish to stay anywhere else! Honestly, it is difficult to imagine a better and more appropriate set up for the price we paid.

my husband, my sister and i stayed at the borgo di pietrafitta in april 2008 for five nights. we had the most beautiful apartment on the second floor of a 500 year old farmhouse with sweeping views of the tuscan hillsides from the front and the back of our apartment. we had a fully equipped kitchen, and we bought groceries at the store in chastillini in chianti, which is only about 4 or 5 miles down the road. we cooked breakfast every morning before heading out on our daily excursions....to san gimignano, volterra, pisa, florence, sienna and orvieto on our way to rome. liugi and his wife vera are the most gracious hosts you could ever imagine......full of suggestions of places to go and see. we will definitely stay here again.

Wow, the Borgo di Pietrafitta Relais was truly an amazing experience. It well succeeded our expectations. For being our first time in Italy, and the first hotel above all, it will be hard to beat! Luigi (the manager) was a very wonderful and hospitable man. He made you feel genuinely welcome at registration due to his sincere kindness and warmth. While staying there, the staff presented the guests with a beautiful Tuscan tasting session, trying various wines, cheeses, and meats from around the Chianti region. It was the perfect location as well. Not too far from anywhere. Daytrips to Florence, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, and Siena are all very reasonable from the Borgo.
