“One of the Nicest Places We've Ever Stayed”

Emlagh House

Jun 17, 2008

Emlagh House is just perfection. Marion Kavanaugh who owns and manages the hotel has thought of everything the traveler might want or need in a hotel. Ultra-comfortable, quiet and beautifully decorated. Our room had wonderful high ceilings, a large sitting area with cozy armchairs, very ample drawer and closet space and a gorgeous bed. The bathroom had a large tub and a separate shower, along with two sinks, plenty of space for toiletries and a heated towel rack. The dining room looks out onto the harbor and they serve a delicious breakfast menu. There's a lovely living room with fireplace and an honor bar, and a glassed-in conservatory. Marion was very helpful with suggestions about the area. If this hotel were within a few hours drive for us, we'd be regular visitors. We recommend this fabulous place very wholeheartedly!

I notice that I am the 51st "Excellent" review of this property with just one wacky "Above Average" and nothing worse. My family spent 11 days touring Ireland. Our hotels included the Ritz Powerscourt and the Shelbourne but our three nights in Dingle and the Emlaugh House were hands down the best. It is likely the most expensive place in Dingle and it is worth it. For my tastes, the Kavanaghs got it right.

We stayed for a couple of nights at the Emlagh House in the beautifully remote little seaside town of Dingle to take a little breather on our otherwise hectic trip through Ireland. The Emlagh House is on the outskirts of town, just before you reach Dingle, an easy 5 minute walk - no need to take your car. It has been built within the last 10 years, which is very new in Ireland, and was designed with the comfort of the guests in mind (heated tile floors, patios, fireplaces). Gráinne Kavanagh runs the hotel with the help of her daughter and a cute terrier ("the man of the house"). The local paintings, collected by her late husband, fill the walls and showcase the rustic beauty of the Dingle landscape and people. We were given the BlueBell room, a huge room on the first floor with a fireplace, bay window overlooking the meadow and ocean in the distance, and a door to a private patio. Beautiful periwinkle blue fabrics in the drapes and upholstery were a counterpoint to the crisp white linens on the amazingly comfortable bed. Heated towel racks and a heated tile floor in the elegant bathroom took the damp chill out of the air. We walked into town for dinner at a tiny eclectic seafood restaurant across from the harbour - menu written on chalkboard and everything caught that day. The Chart House is also supposed to be good, but it was closed the night we wanted to dine there. We spent a day driving around the "Ring of Dingle", which was lots shorter than the Ring of Kerry and just as scenic. Blasket Island Interpretive Center was a wonderful new museum and very interesting. Some of the other guests went on an Archeological Tour of the area with a local guide, which they enjoyed. We did most of the same things ourselves, with the help of a Rick Steves book and a guide sheet that they had in our room. There was a nice living room for guests to gather in the afternoon to discuss their adventures on the Dingle peninsula. A great breakfast was served in a beautiful dining room, with windows overlooking the meadows and ocean in the distance. If you want to take a break from the hectic pace of Dublin or Kerry, visit the Dingle area. While the town is filled with other hotels and B&B's, I would highly recommend the Emlagh House is you want to stay at a comfortable, elegant and friendly place with a great location.

“Amazing Gem”

Emlagh House

May 19, 2008

We stayed at Emlagh House for the May bank holiday weekend and to stay that the experience was perfect is the understatement of the century. The staff were so friendly, warm, helpful they simply couldn't be faulted. The food was great. The whole atmosphere was really happy. The house was spotless every part of it. There were beautiful flower arangements throughout the house, there were books movies and music for the guests use. The room - we had the Blackberry the view was amazing the room stunning everything you could ask for and I'm quite sure if there was something you wanted that wasn't there the staff would do their utmost to rectify it. I believe this room is a superior room but the cost to upgrade was not too much and totally worth it. I didn't see the standard rooms but I'd say that are beautiful too really the whole place was fantastic,

“Most WONDERFUL stay in Dingle”

Emlagh House

5 of 5 stars

This is one of THE best stays in all of Ireland. The location is gorgeous. The rooms are even more gorgeous. And, the breakfast is absolutely incredible. We stayed here during our honeymoon and our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. The bed was like THE most amazing in all of Ireland. The highest quality mattress with the highest quality bedding, sheets, etc. resulted in the most amazing night's sleep. Seriously! It was also the utmost in cleanliness. The whole experience even began with a wonderful check-in experience. We can't wait to come back.
