just back from one night stay in the hotel - 3 stressed out 30 something women - we had a wonderful time - the hotel is like a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. From the moment we entered the front door and were greeted by the porter, the local staff were lovely - it was almost a novelty to meet friendly Irish staff in a hotel as we have all become so used to disinterested foreigners in so many establishments. Our room was spacious with nice modern decor including a lovely 2 seater couch and armchair. The bathroom was old fashioned and in need of updating. We went for a lovely walk through the hotel grounds-it was so peaceful and beautiful - it was like being in another world! Afterwards we went to the leisure centre and relaxed in the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and the highlight - the outdoor hot tub overlooking Kenmare Bay - bliss!! The changing facilities are cramped but everything was clean and peaceful. We had dinner in the dining room - a beautiful room - the standard of the food was grand-nothing spectacular- but the ambiance made up for that. Again the Irish staff were very friendly without being in your face- the foreigners were standoffish. Afterwards we had our coffee in the lounge where there was a piano player-we had planned to go into Sneem for a drink but we were so relaxed we decided it would be a shame to leave the hotel and go back to the outside world!! The buffet breakfast was good but the cooked Irish Breakfast was overcooked and dried up. We were sorry to leave the Hotel and would definately go there again-next time we'd stay 2 nights. Hopefully when it is sold money will be put into refurbishing it but the unique atmosphere and charming local staff will remain.
