I'm just back from a week in Limone where we stayed at the Hotel San Pietro. It's a wonderful hotel and I could recommend it highly. Great views of the lake and Mount Baldo. 3 swimming pools, 2 outdoor and 1 indoor (which is very nicely heated and was roasting all day). The upper outdoor pool is a quiet area for adults only and no noise. Huge infinity style pool with views to mount baldo. it was too cold when I was there for outdoor swimming though (sept 20 - 25). I would recommend you take the 8euro return boat trip to the town of Mescaline. It's almost directly across from Limone and only takes 15 mins on the boats that run regularly from the main pier area. you can pay on the spot and they run every 30mins or so. Mescaline is similar to Limone but a little bigger and has a cable car up the top of mount baldo. 100% worth doing this. the views from 1800metres are spectacular. You can see the whole lake from Riva to the south end. Leave for your day trip to mescaline early if possible. we were there off season and got to the cable car at 11ish... it was about a 60 or 70 minute queue to get onto the cable car. it didn't seem to take too long though as the long queue moves quite fast, and each cable car holds 45 people and runs every 20 mins or so. you switch at the middle section of the mountain to a bigger cable car that holds 60, no waiting here or on the way down. only queue is on the initial one up. its about 10c colder up there so bring a very heavy jacket or you'll be cold. It was sunny and hot in the town of mescaline and 10 mins later at the top there was ice on the ground and it was very cold if you were in the wind. amazing views and wonderful alpine scenery looking north and east away form the lake. I think it was 17euro for the return cable car trip up and back. thats grand considering the views and experience. :)
anyway, back to the hotel. it was very quiet when we were there and is mostly an older crowd 40s 50s. We saw no kids there at all! we are in our late 20s and didn't mind one bit to be honest, very relaxing time. there are some nice touches like table football and table tennis in a games room near the indoor pool plus a nice book section in the reception. The hill is the only thing that might put people off. I walked back to hotel many times from the town, great for the calves.. haha. but you can buy a shuttle bus ticket for 70cent. we just bought ten of them from reception and used them when we felt to tired to walk back up the hill. the shuttle bus leaves regularly from town (on the hour) until 6ish and it takes literally 5 mins to get back to the hotel door. the room was kept to a very high standard and the same cleaning maid is assigned to your room for the duration of your stay. we stayed half board and I must compliment the food setup. I noted some others said it was "so so"... not at all. It was a magnificent spread each morning and evening. everythign you could want for breakfast, eggs cheeses meats cereals yogurts etc... and the dinners were great. about 5 or 6 chefs working to maintain the different food types. chicken, fish, veg, pastas, varying types each night. buffet style help yourself. it runs from 7 -9pm and we just went at 830pm each night to avoid the rush. it was very busy from 7 - 8pm. food replenished constantly so at 830pm lots of fresh stuff still being added. delicious and saved us a fortune not having to eat out every evening. its the best "buffet style" spreadI have experience in any hotel. very well managed and appetizing. the evening entertainment was from 9pm in the bar each night. some nights piano music and singing, some nights amazonian dancing (I kid you not). Im 29 and found myself blushing at the amazonian dancing night. girls in school tartan skirts dancing provocatively and stripping of the skirt. I'm not joking. it was very funny though to see the room of mostly 50 something men and their wives. in fairness they did do some dancing in traditional brazilian costumes and it was very entertainment if a little tiny bit racy at some points. haha. myself and the mrs had a great laugh that night though. the staff were very sincere and friendly and recognised you each day when you went to the bar or restaurant. I would go back here and defo recommend it.
