Firstly may i say this hotel was not our choice we were given this hotel after an overbooking problem from our first choice hotel, so did not know what to expect.

On the whole we were pleasantly surprised by the experience.

As Limone is very hilly the hotel is on quite a steep incline and the coach drops you off at the bottom so there is a bit of a climb with your cases when you get there.

Upon arrival reception were very quick and efficient and gave us the keys to our rooms on the 2nd floor.

It is almost exclusively a german hotel, english travel companies are just getting into sending people here.

The rooms are ok if a little gloomy due to poor lighting, all have a lake view. Some have shower and bath and some just shower. Rooms are cleaned every day, but there are very little toiletries. If you require anything contact reception and it is brought to your room very promptly ie if you require pool towels for the following day.

The hotel has a small sauna and solarium which can be used free of charge.

There are 2 pools with free sunbeds and parasols. You can get drinks and snacks at the pool bars.

I always thought Italy was quite expensive but this was not the case. Even the hotel prices were very reasonable.

All the staff were very friendly, from the cleaners to reception staff to the waiters in the restaurant.

The hotel has a pay at the end of your stay policy, no cash. So if you order food or drinks you just give your room number and pay at the end of your stay. Word or warning though keep all of your receipts just in case of a problem.

If you go on a trip to Venice say which we did, long day but worth it, ask at reception and they will make you up a good size lunch box.

In the restaurant long trousers are required. The food is shall we say different. If you like traditional english food this hotel is not for you. I enjoyed the food it was always very well cooked and beautifully presented.

You are given a table and this is yours for the duration of your stay. Breakfasts consist of cereals, breads, pastries, cold meats, boiled and scramble eggs, bacon and sausages. The same every day though no variety.

Evening meals were a la carte. 4 course with waiter service and buffet for desserts. We had never even heard of a lot of the courses but having said that give them a try and most of which were very nice.

The weather when we were there was not very good it rained every day. The resort is within walking distance but if you have walking difficulties then probably not for you. The resort was much to quiet for us, very few bars.

So in conclusion pleasantly surprised with the hotel, if you go here just hope you get better weather than we did.

Stayed at this hotel for a week in August after being allocated by Inghams on one of their Taste of Italy breaks. Was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. The rooms in fairness were a little dated but the facilities were good, the staff courteous and very helpful and the food excellent. 5 course meals every night with a good choice of food, entertainment on three of the seven nights and two of the best pools in Limone. It was also centrally located which is a big bonus.

On the down side they had a childrens club which was really a club in name only and as I said the room was a little dated. In terms of value for money I would recommend it.

I spoke to Inghams and the feeling I had was that 4 star hotels in general around Garda were not up to 4 star standard but you pays your money and takes your choice. If you want to stay in the room all holiday go somewhere else, if you want somewhere to stay that is very clean, good food, good pools, centrally located and excellent value for money then this is for you.

The reviews posted so far were largely favourable, although there were two which were not so good. I suggest you disregard the 'not-so'good' ones. Our experience was fine. The rooms were OK, two excellenet pools, and a very good restaurant. Dinner was five-course with only the first and dessert courses being from a buffet - the remaining courses were a la carte with good choices. The food could not be faulted. The wine list was very wide, with a particular accent on Italian regional wines. The wines were fairly priced, many around £10 a bottle. Staff were fery attentive and friendly.

There were two tennis clubs nearby at around £6 per hour for the hire of a clay court; they also hired racquets, but they were not so good - better to take your own. The hotel had fantastic views with every bedroom having a balcony. It is also well located - about five minutes from the lakeside beach, or from the centre of the village. The decorations in the hotel were admittedly somewhat dated, and some areas needing redecoration. However, overall this was a very good stay and decent value for money.

We booked through Voyages Jules Verne - I have never been disappointed in 16 holidays with them.

We booked this hotel with Voyages Jules Verne but were very disappointed, and I have in fact written to VJV with my comments and am awaiting their reply, because their rep told us that they have had so many complaints about this hotel it's unlikely to be in their brochure next year. I notice that the reviews on this site are quite good but there aren't many and none are very recent, so perhaps it's got worse.....

So let's start with the good points: very clean, two very good swimming pools, the upper level pool was especially good as it was long and deep enough for 'proper' swimming! The bar areas were good and the food in the bar excellent value. Quite large rooms, and the views are fantastic, and this is really what sells this hotel because otherwise it's mediocre and probably would struggle to achieve a 2-star rating in the UK.

Breakfasts were very good. Lots of food, lots of choice.

And now the bad points:

The restaurant is a partitioned area off the bar, supposedly air-conditioned but the aircon didn't seem to be switched on much of the time, or perhaps it just didn't work too well. Tables were far too close together, you are allocated a table on arrival for the duration of your stay, which is fine, but most couples ended up sharing what was really a table for four (with a two inch gap between tables) with total strangers. I'm a sociable person but I don't like enforced intimacy. It reminded me very much of Butlins in my youth; the food was slightly better, and to be fair I'm a fussy eater, but we felt that the hotel was trying to do Cordon Bleu and failing miserably. There were four courses, but not a lot of choice; vegetables were sadly lacking, and the food was generally of poor quality, overcooked and bland. There was a salad buffet, but we only found out about this from the people at the next table. The waiters were OK, but not over-friendly, probably due mainly to the language barrier.

The bedrooms, while quite large, were very basic. Twin beds, which were actually quite comfortable but very narrow - 2'6" wide, which is really not what I'd expect of a 4-star hotel in any country. The bathroom was adequate, but the bath, again, was too narrow, so much so that it was impossible to find a comfortable posiiton to stand in the shower, which was at the side of the bath. The TV channels bore no relation to what was shown on the guide, and the only English language channels, BBC World News and Sky News, had such bad reception that it was impossible to watch them most of the time, and despite complaining about this several times, there was no improvement. The German and Italian channels, on the other hand, of which there were many, were generally fine.

There was no information pack in the room, and very little info in the hotel generally. If you wanted to know, you had to ask, but of course you needed to know what to ask! Some of the Reception staff were very helpful and spoke good English, others weren't, and didn't. They all spoke German, and we felt that this hotel iwas generally geared towards German rather than English tourists.

The hotel is generally dated and in need of re-decoration. The carpets in the communal areas are dreadful. There are no porters - not a problem for us, but it was for some of the older guests. My husband and the tour rep helped some elderly people with their cases when we arrived and departed, as the hotel is on a steep incline.

We loved Limone, it's beautiful, and we loved Lake Garda, but we would definitely not return to this hotel.
