“Lovely hotel and location”

There are always those who will moan about anything and everything and I had some reservations after booking our holiday having read some of the comments on this site.

However, these were our findings.

Location - one of the most important features to us. This hotel is located up a hill (as it states in all of the brochure details) and has the most wonderful views of the lake. There are rooms at the rear of the hotel of course which will not overlook the lake however we were fortunate enough to have a front room from which the view of the lake was breathtaking from both inside the room and of course on the balcony. The room itself, nothing much to shout about I have to say BUT was SPOTLESSLY clean and cleaned DAILY, bed very comfortable, air con, mini bar, TV, en-suite shower which was perfectly ample with clean towels every single day.

The pool sides were swept each morning and kept wonderfully well as indeed were the surrounding gardens. Again all very neat and tidy and a pleasure to be in.

The "dreaded hill" - yes it is a climb but is managable if you take it slowly on a hot day. Equally prior to leaving the hotel you can book the shuttle which will take you to and collect you from the car park in Limone at certain times (times listed on a leaflet available from Reception) for 1 Euro each way and then it will not be a problem at all. Walking however does allow you to experience the wonderful scent of the flowers and trees in the gardens as you pass.

Staff - all we came into contact with were extremely polite and nothing too much trouble for them.

The restaurant - yes it is a buffet style dining room. It is kept extremely clean and is very well organised. Whilst it is "self service", the staff are extremely efficient at clearing the tables. The Maitre De runs a tight ship and it shows. Very good indeed from this aspect. The food itself, a very good variety of food, from soup to the salad bar to the hot food and of course desserts. Free wine or soft drinks with the meal each night. Breakfast, as you would expect a continental breakfast. Orange or grapefruit juice (yes from a push button machine but actually rather nice) and also coffee from a similar machine but also rather nice. There was always the choice of FRESH fruit for both breakfast and evening meals.

We tried our hardest to find something which we could comment negatively about but it was almost impossible in our view. The only two things, which are extremely minor, are the salad bar was not marked with what the dishes were (which for someone like my husband who does not like fish sometimes found it a bit difficult to decipher whether there was fish in them or not, apart from the obvious ones of course) and the fact that we found some of the German guests sometimes somewhat rude (pushing their way in front of you and talking rather loudly). But then we have found this to be the case on many vacations abroad. This if course is not a reflection of the hotel!

We had a wonderful time at this hotel and were extremely satisfied both with the facilities and the location. We would certainly go there again should we return to this part of Italy.

“Stunning Limone”

Hotel Royal Village

This hotel is set in one of the most perfect locations in Lake Garda. It has beautiful views of the lake and the stunning mountains (Monte Baldo). The complex is generally good - notably the swimming pools. The rooms however, are very basic and old fashioned and were very disappointing. Once we had moved to a room with a lake view, the view more than made up for it however, we were orginally facing a garden at the back of the hotel which was very dark and shaded. The food at this hotel was of a very poor standard, I definitely wouldn't recommend half board - we ate out every night after the first evening. The hotel and ttown was very popular with German tourists - this was frustrating at times as local people would talk to us in German before speaking in Italian and some places had more German food than Italian dishes! Limone itself is very quaint with lovely winding cobbled streets and lots of wonderful restaurants and bars on the lake. It was more reasonable than I had expected to eat out. We ate at Gemma's on the front which was very nice. We were also recommended a great place called La Cantina del Gato Borracho which offered traditional Italian food and wine - and from midnight fantastic live music. It is a hidden treasure! but be prepared to pay a bit more for food there. Overall a superb holiday location.

“Lovley Holiday”

Hotel Royal Village

We have just returned from a week at the Royal Village and had a great time.

Reception staff were very helpful and check-in and out were speedy and efficient.

Our room had an absolutely amazing view. It was a little tired and the bathroom was very small but it had everything we needed and was always clean.

We enjoyed the pool facilities and there were always plenty of sun loungers. Although we had only booked half board we found there is a free bar serving wine and soft drinks during the day, a light lunch and also tea and cakes to die for in the afternoon. This really kept our costs down (and we could afford more cocktails in the evening!)

The dining room was not very romantic, and very 'canteen' style. However, they did have to cater for a lot of guests. We always found a table with the help of a friendly host and the staff were very efficient at keeping the tables clear. The food itself was lovely, always plenty of choice and beautifully cooked. And the salad bar was amazing.

We enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar at night, which always had live music or entertainment. The majority of bar staff were great, two in particular who really were friendly. The drinks came quickly and were always beautifully cold. (I suggest trying the local limoncino :))

The walk into Limone only takes a few minutes but is fairly steep on the way back for anyone with difficulties. However, the hotel runs a shuttle bus for one 1 Euro each which is great.

Overall, an excellent stay. Would definitely return.

“A good base to explore the lake from”

Hotel Royal Village

4 of 5 stars
Northamptonshire

We stayed for a week at the Royal Village. It's quite a large hotel complex split over several buildings, but never felt too large as a quiet road runs through the middle meaning it seems like a smaller place. There is a corridor under the road linking the two halves so it's quite safe.
The room we had was a usable size - not huge, but not so small you couldn't move around. We had air conditioning, a balcony, a tv, a mini bar and the bed was comfortable. The room was cleaned well daily.
There are several pools scattered around, and the outdoor ones were very busy during the day. The indoor one was much quieter and we tended to use this. A lot of visitors seemed content to stay aroudn the hotel pools all day and never leave, and they were well catered for with free soft drinks and wine all day, with free snacks in the afternoon. We preferred to hire a car and go exploring the lake however. The least enjoyable thing about the hotel was probably meals. They are served "buffet style" and generally it's something of a free-for-all to grab a table and get to the food. Once we worked out the system it wasn't too bad though, and the food was perfectly edible if not to a gourmet standard. Be warned though, I don't think I saw a single chip the whole time!

Lake Garda (and Limone) are beautiful however, and highly recommended. The Royal Village makes a good base although those of a less-fit nature should know the walk back up to the hotel is a bit of a killer. The hotel do run a taxi service for 1 euro from the lakeside during the evening though, so it's not really a problem. To see some pictures from Limone and the surrounding area that we took, visit [--]

“CANNOT FAULT THE ROYAL VILLAGE”

Hotel Royal Village

We have just returned from a week at the Royal Village Hotel in Limone , and we cannot recomend it highly enough (booked with Inhgams as a package deal). The outdoor pools were spotless (cleaned every morning) and the food was excellent, we chose the buffet option in the main restaurant. Tinned Fruit?. Yes , there was tinned fruit avaibale(my wife enjoyed it with Yoghurt at Breakfast )but what about the fresh fruit on one table (in bowls of cold water) and the array of cakes and desserts on the main buffet area .The staff were friendly and helpful and the animation team (4 girls) all worked very hard to entertain. The hotel is up a steep hill, but there is a shuttle bus (1 euro).
all in all an excellent choice for families,
