“Exceptional Service, Intimate Setting, Perfect Wedding”

Azul Hotel & Beach Resort

5 of 5 stars
Columbus OH
Jun 29, 2008

We stayed at Azul from June 10-16 with a group of 23 guests (including ourselves) for our wedding. Overall, the experience was AMAZING and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Azul.

Reception was easy, relaxed and very service focused. Cold scented towels, champagne and extremely friendly staff greeted us. The lobby is beautiful and has a very spa like feel.

I was a bit concerned with our room given previous reviews but I found it to perfectly fit our needs. King bed was very comfortable, not at all hard as mentioned in previous posts. We were in a "deluxe" room (#106) and had a fabulous view of the water. All of our guests rooms were very nice, and all clean and you could see at least some of the ocean from each. Other guests complained of the walls being a bit thin and noises being easily transmitted from one room to another, but we didn't experience this at all (likely because our room was on the end). Room was always stocked with plently of bottled water, sodas, beer, juice, etc. The IPod dock in each room was a MAJOR bonus. It was very nice to be able to set our own soundtrack in the room. Rooms could possibly have been seen as a bit on the small side, but since we spend very little time in our room, I feel that a huge room is a waste of real estate. Bathroom was modern and updated. We had a few problems with toilet clogging but they were addressed immediately by Azul staff.

This is a small resort so definitely no "Disneyland" feel. Pools are small and activities are pretty mellow. It was truly perfect for us, since we had so many friends and family to interact with. It was very intimate and personal. All of the staff learned our names almost immediately and made every effort to call us all by name. There is not so much to do here other than relax so for families with teenaged children or very active types it may be a bit too quiet. Again, completely perfect for us.

I a bit of a "foodie", and overall found the food to be much better than I expected. Food at Blue was my favorite and room service items were all very good. I did not order wine (as it was very overpriced) and instead took advantage of all of the yummy mixed drinks that were included. Azul offers all of the major "Top Shelf" liquor brands you'd expect to see in the US (ie - Gray Goose, Jim Beam, etc). They made delicious fruit based drinks and mojiots. Our last evening there we did a private sunset dinner on the beach which was included in our wedding package. The set up for this event was absolutely lovely and the food was exceptional! If you are celebrating a special occassion I would highly recommed splurging on this service. The special breakfast served in the room (again included in our package but available for purchase) was also absolutely delicious.

As everyone has mentioned the beach butlers provide a wonderful service and they were all warm, friendly and endlessly helpful. I am completely spoiled!

The wedding coordinator, Carolina, as well as Lomas wedding representative, Gilberto were both an absolute pleasure to work with. Our event went off without a hitch. Decorations were lovely, officiant (a female Mexican judge since we did the legal ceremony) was wonderful and easily incorporated all of the items we wanted. My flowers were stunning, which was a suprise since I had only arranged for the ones included in the package since I didnt want to spend extra. I used the resorts hairstylist, Anna, for my hair and it was absolutely perfect. I had forgotten the pictures of what I wanted and she still was able to create exactly what I had in my head. We had a private reception after the wedding and the food was again, MUCH better than I had hoped. Everyone loved it and we had a sound system to hook up our IPod so we could dance. Photography was done by Sol Tamargo (an outside vendor who no longer shoots at this resort due to there outside vendor policy). If ANYONE is considering getting married here, please feel free to email me and I would be happy to answer any questions you might have.

The only negative I have to report is that my Dad had some cash stolen from his wallet while he was away from his room. He did not have it locked in the safe at the time. He filed appropriate paperwork but the cash (about 250$ US) was not recovered. We used our safe for all of our cash anytime we were not in the room and did not have any problems.

A few people particiapted in the time share sales pitch and found it to be interesting (and not high pressure) but for those of us who were not interested we were not approached.

If this is an indication of the level of service at ALL of the Karisma resorts, I can't wait to visit their other properties!

“Amazing Wedding and Stay”

Azul Hotel & Beach Resort

We stayed at the Azul Beach Hotel from May 18-22, 2008. My now husband and I got married there during our stay. We brought 34 friends and family with us and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. The service we received was amazing to say the least. The food was fantastic and the presentation of the food was amazing. Much more than you would expect from an all-inclusive. The best part was there were no buffets (except for breakfast which had the buffet or a la carte option). My favorite restaurant was Tainan-very good sushi! The rooms were very nice and simply decorated. A couple of parties in our group did get put in villas 11 and 12 which were not as nice so I would try to stay away from these villas. The beach was beautiful and a good size from this small resort. Yes there is some seaweed but they are constantly cleaning it up and it is not an issue. The beach was not rocky at all. The beach beds were absolutely wonderful and we pretty much laid in them everyday. We never had a problem getting a bed, however we did become good friends with the beach butlers so that helped ;) The beach butlers were to die for. They always ensured that are drinks were full and they knew what we were drinking and would just bring us drinks when they saw us getting low. I must name a couple of the beach butlers since they were the best; Alejandro-he was amazing and so friendly that the beach would not have been the same without him, Mario-another sweetie who was so attentive, and Hans and Heidi who also did a great job. The other staff were also wonderful and it is true that they knew your names after the first or second day and would say hello to you every time they saw you.

Everything with the wedding turned out great, however I was not very fond of Carolina. I didn’t find her very helpful or accommodating. From what I was told she is moving to another resort and I believe her assistant will be taking over but I am not 100% sure. Everything turned out well but I didn’t like having to deal with her. The day of the wedding there were some issues with how the tables were set-up and she gave my family a hard time and was reluctant to do what we wanted. However, in the end the wedding was beautiful and as perfect as I hoped it would be. The violinist was amazing and I would recommend him even though it is a bit pricey but it really adds to the ceremony. Unfortunately they day of our wedding it was so windy that we had to have our dinner inside one of the restaurants rather than outside on the beach but it was still very nice inside the Blue restaurant. The wait staff during our dinner was great. Even though it was windy we were able to have the dancing outside on the beach and throughout the dance the waiters were serving us drinks ect. At one point we even had the waiter’s on the dance floor with us. We had booked a photographer and to be honest we had no expectations. She was very nice and shot the kind of pictures we wanted (more candid, natural shots). We were pleasantly surprised when they arrived the following day with the pictures printed and in an album. The pictures turned out great and we were very happy with them. I know other reviews complained about their pictures but we were very happy. I also got my hair done at the hotel by Ana and she did a great job, exactly what I wanted. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone and If you are thinking of having your wedding there I would definitely recommend it. Our entire group thoroughly enjoyed it and would all return.

“Great Group Wedding Spot”

Azul Hotel & Beach Resort

We went to a destination wedding which was absolutley beautiful. This resort is unique in that the property is small, and not spread out- everyhting is a quick trip. Beach is beautiful, and the Beach Butlers are great, bringing us anything we requested, lunch, drinks, etc.

Wedding was fun, and beautiful, although I believe the Brides/Grooms Parents had to pay extra for food/room reservations which is silly since this is an all inclusive resort.

We have stayed at several resorts in Mexico, and although this food was better, it was not outstanding. There is no buffet option for lunch, which I always like. Dinner service was not as good as we expected, and the resort was not very accomidating to larger dinner groups. The lobster menu was not full lobsters, but tiny cut up pieces, and was not good.

One night we had a frozen A/C unit in our room, but they came and repaired it righ away the next day.

Tequilla bar was fun, and drinks were good, but remember to specify which liquor you want. We would have liked better Pool Bar service.

All in all, cute boutique size resort, beautiul beach good for a group wedding. However, for a couple, I might recommend one of the larger resorts.

“"Million Dollar View"”

Azul Hotel & Beach Resort

Jun 24, 2008

Upon returning from our week vacation at Azul Beach I felt compelled to write a review. The staff at this hotel for the most part is excellent...maybe one or two that weren't that impressive. First I would like to say that our room overlooked the swimup bar and had an excellent view of the ocean..we absolutely loved that.

We were a little disappointed in our room itself..not quite the 5 star luxury we have had at other hotels, but taking in the view I would have to say it made up for a lot of what the room lacked.

The beach butlers Mario and Heidi were great..anything that we asked for was taken care of. Carlos was also great at getting us anything we needed in our rooms, food and drinks, etc.

My husband and I were disappointed in the food and the fact that the restaurants kept changing the times they opened each day. It was extremely frustrating when you are trying to plan excursions immediately after lunch, one day would be 11:30, the next 12:00 and then 12:30...I wish there were some contininuity in the opening times. We really like our spicy mexican food..yet there was not much to be found. One day I finally asked for some fajitas and the chef prepared those and they were great. I guess we were surprised that the choices of food was very limited. The hamburgers from room service were good and I lived on those for a couple of days...couldn't take any more "gourmet type" food.

We had a group of 9 and talking with our family they all felt pretty much the same way.

Overall the experience was pleasant...I wouldn't go so far as to say we will ever stay in this particular hotel resort again. Our next vacation to Mexico we will choose a resort that is a bit larger, more luxurious and has more dining options.

One more bit of advice if you are planning any excursions...look into Xel-Ha if you want to do some equisite snorkling and water activities. This is an all day event, but so worth it if you don't mind spending the day in the water. This is a beautiful eco-park with unbelievable snorkling. The food at this place is also very, very good. We would've liked to eat there a few more times, better than anything we had at the hotel.

The only downfall is when planning with the travel group at the hotel we were told it was a 1 hour 15 minute drive and there would be no stops. Unfortunately that was not true..took 2 1/2 hours and we stopped at least 5 other times to pick up others at hotels along the route. We found that to be very deceptive as we had found another company offering the excursion at a lower price and that was Lomas' big selling point to us to pay more. Next time we will book online with another travel group..the Lomas people at the hotel were great other than that.

“Absolutely Amazing!!!”

Azul Hotel & Beach Resort

Our stay at the Azul Beach Hotel was amazing... There were 16 of us in total that ventured to Mexico for my best friends wedding. For all of us this hotel was a real treat.

Not only were your rooms cleaned every day but in the evening there is another visit to get your bed ready for you to jump in at night and chocolate on your pillow every evening.

The beach butlers were a fantastic touch and made your holiday just that little bit more special.

The wedding was amazing, we couldn't of asked for anything better and the day will be remembered forever as one of the best weddings I have ever been too.

The Azul is spotless from top to toe, staff are very friendly even going so far as to push the baby in his pram whilst his mum an dad were eating, kids club was great, beach lovely although some seaweed at times it was very clean and the sand felt like talcum powder and the sea was crystal clear.

Amazing beach barbecues at lunchtime were a real treat, the Asian restaurant was my favorite but all the food was out of this world!!! The evening entertainment was also superb.

I would recommend this place to anybody especially families xx
