“comfortable and great location”

Posada el Moro

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and loved it. We had a room on the top floor and had great views of the rooftops from the porch. Our room had no TV but a good air conditioner and fan. We had some problems with the shower - very low water pressure and sometimes none at all in the mornings, i guess when there where other people taking showers.
Our room was very large. The bed had a foam layer on top which we found too soft but we took it off and slept very well after that.
The location is great, you are right in town but its very quiet and peaceful at night.
the included breakfast isn't that great, cereal, toast and fresh oranges and grapefruits you can juice yourself. There is a fridge you can use but you cant really get access to it at night since they lock the kitchen area. A few doors down you will find 'rosy's' and i recommend treating yourself to a breakfast at hers. she is very sweet and for 75 pesos you get fresh juice, coffee, eggs, beans and tortillas and its delicious.
All in all, a very good value (we paid 40 a night) and comfortable hotel.

“Nice room, but lapses in customer service”

Posada el Moro

I spent one night at the Posada El Moro and was pleased with some aspects of my stay. My room was lovely — spacious, light, airy, and quiet, with simple furnishings and some charming touches. In addition, Erika (who speaks English) and her mother (who does not) were very amiable. The inn is very conveniently located, and internet is available during certain limited hours.

I was, however, a bit disappointed in the customer service. For one thing, when I was first shown my room, they discovered that the lock was broken. I was offered the choice of accepting it as is (“you’ll be safe here”) or paying $5 US more per night for a different room. Perhaps others will disagree, but having booked and paid well in advance, I don’t think I should have been asked to pay more for a room with a functioning lock. Instead, they said they would to try to fix the lock, but were unable to provide me with coffee or internet access in the meantime. They did agree to keep my suitcase secure while I went to a nearby internet café. When I returned at the agreed-upon time, my suitcase was sitting, unguarded, in an area that was open to the street. I had to wait a while longer, but when Erika finally returned I learned that they had been able to fix the lock and I was able to check in to the original room. It was by then some 3 hours since I had arrived.

Another disappointment was with breakfast. The breakfast room included the makings for tea or coffee, oranges one could squeeze to make fresh juice, part of a box of cereal (but no milk), and sliced bread with a toaster and some butter and jam. There weren’t enough chairs for all the guests who were trying to have breakfast, and the single, slow toaster couldn’t match the demand. I waited more than 15 minutes just for access to the toaster!

I could provide other examples, but the bottom line is that I experienced disappointing lapses in customer service, lapses that I would not expect from even a budget accommodation.

““At Home” accommodations in a charming Mexican town”

Posada El Moro’s website does not do justice to whats offered at this budget inn. We are budget backpackers and found this to probably be the nicest budget accommodations we ever stayed in. Being budget backpackers at $45 a night- we expect the basics, but at this price Posada El Moro gives you a spacious room eqipped with air conditioning, a king sized bed- (real cozy with a super soft comforter & mattress w/ extra padding), a dresser, side tables, a walk in closet, a vanity sink area separate from the bathroom with nice toilets and showers (hot water) with modern fixtures and a great continental breakfast. The breakfast includes free rein of their kitchen area with a variety of cereals, fruits, yogurts, bread, beans, milk, tea, water (purified water cooler) coffee and juice. The kitchen comes equipped with an electric juicer which we took advantage of along with a toaster, fridge, utensils, plates, tables, chairs… the whole bit. The Caribbean Sea is just a short block away! Posada El Moro offers a cute landscaped garden path that leads to a small pool. The flowers were in bloom and the plants were well taken care of- very pleasant to the eye. The pool was actually being used during our stay and perfect for children and taking dips to cool off. The hotel is three stories and offers no elevator- (most budget hotels do not), yet the views from the second and third floors do offer sea views from the wrap around shared balcony. Each room comes with its own small outdoor table and chairs to enjoy the beautiful Caribbean weather outdoors. The hotel is run by very friendly people, including senorita Erica who speaks perfect English and runs the boutique in the hotel, which sells purses, jewelry, clothing and other artistic Mexican gifts. We liked the hotel so much- after a few days away from the town—we returned and were pleased with another room. The town was simply charming with an old Mexican flavor that other towns have lost due to an increase in tourism. Puerto Morelos is a place to get away from it all and have all the conveniences at your fingertips including great shops, restaurants, fishing, the botanical gardens (where we saw spider monkeys in the wild), a zoo, nearby centoes and other eco adventure excursions. I also must add the nicest taxi drivers in any Mexican town I've visited and that’s a compliment given we travel the Yucatan twice a year! I highly recommend eating next door at the Galaria Gourmet where you can get sandwiches, burgers, fish, shrimp all starting at around $6 a meal in a posh, swanky environment. Want something even more affordable?—eat at Dona Triny’s where they offer Internet usage and tacos. Tacos start at 80 cents USD. In any event, Posada El Moro is a great choice for anyone on a budget- or anyone seeking a comfortable and inviting atmosphere in a relaxing town! It’s a great bang for the buck and only 15-20 minutes from the Cancun airport!

We stayed for two nights at the end of January. Puerto Morelos is a lovely fishing village about 20mins from Cancun. This was a great first stop after landing late at the airport and was very easy to get to.

The hotel has very clean simple rooms. Our room had air conditioning and ceiling fan - which you do need to keep you cool at night. The room was spacious and contained plenty of space for luggage, a large futon and adequate en-suite toilet / shower.

The inclusive breakfast was a nice start to the day, with plenty of fresh fruit and the opportunity to squeeze your own fresh orange juice.

The hotel is 2 mins walk from the beach. There are loads of places to eat near by. A couple of recommendations - Mama's Place for breakfast lunch - try the sticky buns! (Turn right and walk up the street from the hotel) For dinner try Johns Place on the block behind. This is a bit pricier but the food is of excellent quality.

Posada el Moro is very simple family run hotel. We came with our 1.5 year old daughter on the nights of Jan 1-3 2008. We paid $75 per night, which was a great value, especially for the holidays!
We stayed in room no. 1 (suite), on the second floor that faced the street, I'm not sure if this was the room that the other traveler reffered to as noisy, but we didn't have any problems with it. No noise at all, and mind you it was the holidays.
The suite had 2 rooms, one with 2 double beds, toilet and shower, and the other like a living room, that had a folding sofa, kitchenette tables and chairs. We also had our share of a balcony, which we didn't use because it was too cold and rainy to sit outside.
As I said, it is very simple, but very nice and certainly worth the price we paid for it.
They served breakfast which we never attended, we always ate outside.
Ericka was very very nice and helpful, she supplied a "pack and play" bed for our baby, which was great.
We had a problem with our toilet, but it was fixed within a couple of hours.
There was also the small pool, that we didn't get to use because of the bad weather.

The only drawback was that the cleaning lady only appeared to clean our room when we came back to nap (after hours of not being in the room), so we couldn't let her clean the room, and this went on for all of the 3 days that we were there, but she always gave us fresh towels.

The hotel is located just at the center of this small village
(though not on the beach), so the location was great, we came back to the room in a matter of seconds to pick up something we forgot, no matter where we were.
There is not much to do in Puerto Morales, but to relax, walk around and sit in small restaurants.

Our daughter loved the hotel and loved playing with Ericka.
