Posada El Moro’s website does not do justice to whats offered at this budget inn. We are budget backpackers and found this to probably be the nicest budget accommodations we ever stayed in. Being budget backpackers at $45 a night- we expect the basics, but at this price Posada El Moro gives you a spacious room eqipped with air conditioning, a king sized bed- (real cozy with a super soft comforter & mattress w/ extra padding), a dresser, side tables, a walk in closet, a vanity sink area separate from the bathroom with nice toilets and showers (hot water) with modern fixtures and a great continental breakfast. The breakfast includes free rein of their kitchen area with a variety of cereals, fruits, yogurts, bread, beans, milk, tea, water (purified water cooler) coffee and juice. The kitchen comes equipped with an electric juicer which we took advantage of along with a toaster, fridge, utensils, plates, tables, chairs… the whole bit. The Caribbean Sea is just a short block away! Posada El Moro offers a cute landscaped garden path that leads to a small pool. The flowers were in bloom and the plants were well taken care of- very pleasant to the eye. The pool was actually being used during our stay and perfect for children and taking dips to cool off. The hotel is three stories and offers no elevator- (most budget hotels do not), yet the views from the second and third floors do offer sea views from the wrap around shared balcony. Each room comes with its own small outdoor table and chairs to enjoy the beautiful Caribbean weather outdoors. The hotel is run by very friendly people, including senorita Erica who speaks perfect English and runs the boutique in the hotel, which sells purses, jewelry, clothing and other artistic Mexican gifts. We liked the hotel so much- after a few days away from the town—we returned and were pleased with another room. The town was simply charming with an old Mexican flavor that other towns have lost due to an increase in tourism. Puerto Morelos is a place to get away from it all and have all the conveniences at your fingertips including great shops, restaurants, fishing, the botanical gardens (where we saw spider monkeys in the wild), a zoo, nearby centoes and other eco adventure excursions. I also must add the nicest taxi drivers in any Mexican town I've visited and that’s a compliment given we travel the Yucatan twice a year! I highly recommend eating next door at the Galaria Gourmet where you can get sandwiches, burgers, fish, shrimp all starting at around $6 a meal in a posh, swanky environment. Want something even more affordable?—eat at Dona Triny’s where they offer Internet usage and tacos. Tacos start at 80 cents USD. In any event, Posada El Moro is a great choice for anyone on a budget- or anyone seeking a comfortable and inviting atmosphere in a relaxing town! It’s a great bang for the buck and only 15-20 minutes from the Cancun airport!
