Absolutely perfect place to stay in Palenque. 6km down the road from the ruins, a rural setting in a rubber plantation with flocks of wild parrots and brown jays in the trees, hummingbirds in the gardens, a domesticated deer, rabbits, geese and a parrot wandering around the grounds. In May the enormous mango trees provided us with all the free mangoes we could eat. Large palapas with tables and hammocks surround the pool area and there is a fridge full of beer and drinks you access by the honor system. The small pool is great for kids or cooling off. The large palapa-roofed cabanas are great, they keep most of the wildlife out but you need the mosquito netting and you might find a lizard or two. No a/c--fans work, it's an experience of hearing jungle night sounds rather than being insulated in a hotel.
The owner and staff are very warm and helpful. When we were staying it wasn't full, so they weren't cooking dinner. However they provided a menu from an excellent nearby place which delivered hot, delicious, inexpensive food. It's a few km into town for more options. An excellent breakfast is cooked on site, with eggs, tortillas, great salsa, fruit, coffee, toast.
An extremely relaxing place, perfect for kids.
