“Great Style, Fabulous Service”

InterContinental Sydney

Jun 9, 2008

We stayed here for our 21st Wedding anniversary on 23rd and 24th May. We have been to the Cafe Opera Restaurant many times for Sunday lunch and as they had a great deal for breakfast, late 5pm check out and valet parking we grabbed it.

We were given a room on the 21st floor looking over the Botanical Gardens, we wanted a smoking room and the whole floor was smoking which was great. A complimentaty bottle of champagne to celebrate our anniversary was a fabulous touch and arrived in an ice bucket 10 minutes after we arrived. The room was clean, modern and the hotel is just very special. From check in to check out it was professional and efficient and so close to Circular Quay and the museums, art galleries, shopping and the botanic gardens! We would definitely stay here again, a nice part of town.

“Perfect time at the Intercontinental”

InterContinental Sydney

May 26, 2008

My husband and I stay at the Intercontinental Sydney for one night as a special treat on a weekend. We used TripAdvisor to make the choice of where to stay - and I am so glad that we 'listened' to everyone and booked the Intercontinental.
We booked a deal which included breakfast, valet parking and late checkout, which was terrific value.
The staff were absolutely amazing - everyone from the receptionist, to the porters, to the cleaners made a point of being kind, and asking us how our stay was going.
We had a room with a view of Watsons Bay - and it was worth spending a little bit extra to get it.
The breakfast was delicious, and the bed so comfortable. The plasma tv was also nice, with a good selection of channels to watch.
I would definitely stay there again, and it is the nicest hotel that I have stayed in, in Australia.

“Excellent five star venue”

InterContinental Sydney

We stayed for one night with our three year old daughter after getting a good deal on a website and were well impressed with the place. Great room with two queen sized beds, spacious bathroom and a harbour view (complete with automatic blinds). It's a really central site, a couple of minutes away from Circular Quay and the Botanic Gardens and an ideal site if you're looking to explore the City Centre. Check in and Atrium bar is pretty special. It might not be the cheapest site in Sydney, but iof you can get a good deal or money is no object then it's well worth considering.

“A great del for an amzing hotel”

We stayed here before flying out to Tasmania. This is a very central hotel, with amazing views over the botanic gardens. Very upmarket style, disappointed we couldn't stay another night. Staff were lovely & helpful. Entertainment e.g. was aldy jazz/blues singer, or a piano player, super to listen to in the background whilst having a drink, so relaxing. The original building is on the ground floor, obvioulsy then the tower hotel built on top but the old & new go weel together. Room very spacious & comfortable.

“Great location but nothing special otherwise”

InterContinental Sydney

3 of 5 stars
London
Apr 13, 2008

We stayed here for 3 nights in March. We arrived early in the morning after a flight from Singapore and were pleasantly surprised to be able to check in. Our room was on the 17th floor with a great view of the harbour bridge, we had booked this and paid extra for the view. Apart from the view the room was a standard 4 star room. Some of the fixtures and decor looked a little tired and the bathroom was rather small and old fashioned compared to others I've seen in similar kinds of places. Overall a comfortable room but if it hadn't have been for the view, it would have been nothing special at all.

We ate breakfast at the hotel on a couple of occasions. There was a good selection of hot and cold options but at $38 per person it was an expensive option unless you were very hungry. On other mornings we grabbed something smaller at the local starbucks and there were plenty of other more reasonably priced options in the area.

The location of the hotel is by far it's biggest asset. It's right next door to the stunning botanical gardens and a 2 minute walk from Circular Quay. Given that we were in Sydney for the first time we didn't eat at the hotel in the evening, there are so many other places to try that this was unnecessary. We did have a cocktail in the bar one evening which was nice. The bar itself shut at 11.30 which we found unusual in a hotel of this nature in a city location.

Overall we enjoyed our stay but whether we would come back is uncertain. I feel for what we paid we might have found something with more of a 'wow' factor which is what you expect from a hotel with a 5 star rating. Without the great view from this room this would have been an entirely average stay.
